      Low Head/George Town

      November 22, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We were woken at 4.45am to disembark the Spirit of Tasmania at 5.30. OMG I am not an early morning person.
Our first night in Tassie was spent in Low Head Tourist Park. We pulled in to book a site for the night before going to stock up at Woolies in George Town (right on the York Cove). When I told Sarah we had just got off the Spirit of Tasmania that morning she allowed us to check in straight away instead of waiting. We got set up and then I went for a nap.
We didn't do alot in Low Head as the wind was strong at least there was no rain. I did get all my washing dry.
The 2 photos of the York Cove were taken from the Woolies carpark.

      Low Head

      April 26, 2019 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 12 °C

We got back on the road this morning and moved about 80kms up the road to Low Head which is just past George Town on the estuary of the Tamar river as it enters the Bass Straits.
We have booked into a caravan park for the next 4 nights and Kay is already into her 4th load of laundry (I do help by hanging it out on the line, but I think she then sneaks out and rehangs it all anyway).
It is very windy here at the moment and the same is forecast for the next couple of day but we will not let it stop us sightseeing so we will put on some extra clothes and beanies to keep warm. I have had to park the car so that it blocks the wind from blowing the washing line away.
On our trips we have seen lots and lots of people who travel with their pets and I get so frustrated that there are so many owners that think they don’t have to follow the rules ie keep their dog on a leash because they think their dog won’t be happy wearing a leash, But today we came across the worst example of a bad owner, we went to look at a caravan park to see if we wanted to stay and there was a little dog sitting at the gate looking out occasionally barking at people passing by, so we were talking to the park manager and he said that the dog wasn’t his, it had belonged to a holidaymaker who left it behind when they moved on and when the park phoned them to let them know they had forgotten their dog and they said they would come back, but that was over 2 years ago and the dog is still waiting.

Leaving Low Head for White Sands

      March 1, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

We got to have a little bit of a rest in this morning before having to get moving to check out after a 1 night stay at Low Head.
The rain that started at about 9.30 last night continued quite heavily throughout the night, but eased off in the morning to occasional light showers.
We stopped to get some supplies in George Town on our way passed, then headed inland.
We impulsively decided to stop at Bay of Fires Winery at Pipers River, but this was closed and opens only by appointment, so we carried on to Bridestowe Lavender Estate.
Here we had some morning tea, and had a look at the estate for about an hour before getting back on the road.
The run from there to St. Helens was slow going. The road was very up and down and very narrow, so it was very slow going.
When we were about 10 mins out of St Helens we found The Shop in the Bush which was an antique and old wares store, just on the side of the highway. We looked here for about 20 mins before heading into St Helens by about 2.30pm.
