• Padua Day 4- Day trip to Venice

    8 novembre 2023, Italia ⋅ 🌙 10 °C

We set out to see 7 churches with paintings of Veronese, Tintoretto, Bellini and Tizian.
We ended up seeing 6 churches because one was under reconstruction.

The Basilica Santa Maria Glorious dei Frari had the lovely Tizian's Presentation at the temple, Tizian's Assumption and Sculpture of Canova's grave, and Bellini's Tryptic painting.

Santa Maria Dei Carmini had the Veronese's Holy Family with St John and Tintoretto's Presentation at the Temple
Santa Maria Della Salute had the amazing frescoes of Tizian

Church of St Sebastian had the great works by Veronese in the sacristy and the Naves of the church, and Tizian amazing altarpiece.

Basilica Dei Santa Giovanni and Paolo had amazing works by Lotto, Bellini, Vivarini and Tirali.
Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta was Ruby's favourite with the amazing inlaid marble sculptures with the lovely green and white and the fluidity of the work.

Lastly Church of Madonna dell Orto had the wonderful Tintoretto frescoes.
It's really hard to pick a favourite for me as I liked them all but if I had to pick it would be the Church of St Sebastian.

We were in Venice from morning to night and you never tire of this place. In 10 minutes, I had lost count of how many bridges we had crossed. I was really glad that Ruby's knees were good despite all the ups and downs of steps that we did. Getting to all the churches required us to walk the length and breadth of group of islands, missing the touristic area of St Mark's Square. We walked along the southern Venice Lagoon, and north overlooking Murano Island.
The walk in the evening along the Grand Canal from sunset was just the most relaxing and romantic period when the crowds had mostly gone.

    Distance walked 22.5km
