Today is the start of camping season for us in 2024.
It has been a long dry summer. We waited for the rain to wet the bush so that we were not in bush fire risk. We inadvertently did an unexpected gruelling 13km hike on 13th of June at Wungong Gorge, in preparation for the Stirling Ranges. In the week leading up to this trip, we were still uncertain about camping here because of the 2 - 5⁰C minimum temperatures, and maximum just above 10⁰C.
It took us 4½hrs to drive to Stirling Range Retreat, and about half hour to set up the tent as the rocky ground put up persistent resistace to our drilling in the pegs. There is no off grid camping around the Ranges, so we had to set up in a caravan park. Not a bad idea as we could always retreat into one of their cabin.
The campsite was rather quiet, and views magnificent and uninterrupted with the front of our tent opening to the Range.
After a yummy lamb stew dinner and a short sit by a communal campfire, we retired for the night.Read more
