    Packing and Dunsborough

    December 21, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 27 °C

We had packed the night before and I worked right up till the time we were leaving at 10am. Then we hit a tiny snag. The Jimny couldn't take the rest of the camping gear so they drove 2 cars to our house, we repacked our car and all things fitted into the Jimny and Subaru.
It was a smooth drive to Dunsborough, with a stop at Busselton Origins Markets. We had a yummy late lunch there followed by Op shopping for Kai and Ruby and Warrick and I proceeded on to Dunsborough.
After drinks, exchange of Christmas presents and dinner, we all went to bed early to get the rest for the long drive tomorrow.

  • Journey to Quaalup

    December 22, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Today we left Dunsborough at 9am and did not get to Quaalup campsite till 445pm.
When we got here, we were the only ones here, and will  have the whole place to ourselves until boxing day. The host of this campsite kindly informed us that the canoes are free for us to use till the 26/12.
The drive took us through the Horsepower Highway where old tractors and farming machinery were left as scupltures along the way to Quaalup. Being Christmas, the tractors were decked with tinsel and baubles. We also saw lots of hay art, like ones made into giant teddy bears. Unfortunately we didn't have time to stop to take pictures so maybe we'll have time on the way back to Perth.

  • Quaalup Day 2

    December 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Warrick took us to Peppermint beach in the Jimny today. Driving in the 4WD tracks was both scary and exhilarating. He drove us up the sand dunes that gave us a view of the ocean and the Stirling ranges. We saw a family of emus as a bonus.
With the exception of Warrick, we weren't game to swim in the ocean as it was cold and windy. We did walk the length of the beach and clambered over rocks.
Dinner was lovely bbq steaks, some rissoles and a yummy rocket pear salad.

  • Quaalup Day 3 Christmas Eve

    December 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

We walked the nature's trail to the gorge and back. Lovely views and we managed to get reception at the tower so we could send Christmas greetings for tomorrow.
We then went canoeing in the afternoon on a four sitter up and down river. It was really good fun with Ruby steering and Warrick the Cox man.Read more

  • Quaalup Day 4 Boxing Day

    December 26, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 24 °C

Boxing Day was Warrick's fishing expedition. We were told that Trigelow Beach had a good fishing spot near the rocks. We spent the day patiently waiting and were rewarded with 2 edible fish and one returned to sea because it was undersized. We had herring and maybe wild salmon but not sure because we couldn't identify the fish properly. Tasted fresh and good though.
On the way back to the campsite we saw a seal pup that was playful and looked rather stranded. Warrick gently shooed the seal back into the water. Otherwise it looked like it was going to sleep on the 4WD track.

  • Quaalup Day 5

    December 27, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 17 °C

Today was fishing expedition take two. Warrick drove us to Peppermint Beach again where he did beach fishing. We had to leave early because apparently fishing is better at dawn or dusk. Warrick caught 3 herrings that was bbq with a bit of lime. It was super tasty.
Dinner was a Kai's creation of the amalgamation of all left overs like a fried rice or vege salad with rice.
We were all in bed early as we had to pack and leave by 8am tomorrow.

  • Homeward Bound

    December 28, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 15 °C

    Homeward bound today.
It was a very enjoyable camping. We track it as one of our top camping experiences. I wasn't even motion sick during the 4WD. We enjoyed 4WD to reach a destination. We would be driving in windy windy bush tracks and emerge with a glorious "ta da" moment like a great reveal when the track opens up to the sea.
We will never forget this trip.
