  • Bokor mountain ~ Kampot

    January 26, 2018 in Cambodia ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Not the best sight seeing trip to the mountain as the buildings seemed derelict and laced in graffiti as opposed to being the historical ruins which expected would tell a story. However, we did see puppies and monks together which made it for me!Read more

  • Can tho ~ Vietnam

    February 2, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Not our most favourite place on arrival into Vietnam. The journey here was horrendous due to the crazy bus driver honking his horn, running errands and loading the bus up with local people’s parcels to drop off.

There wasn’t any ‘civilised’ eating places so both nights here involved us going to a Korean bbq restaurant where you order raw meat off a menu and cook it yourself. We had no idea what parts of animals we were eating and we had a raw egg stirred into our rice.

We had a walk round the city and got chased by numerous dogs, booked a floating market trip for the morning and booked our ticket out of here!

  • Can tho

    February 3, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ 🌙 25 °C

We woke up at 4am to go on a tiny boat to the Cai Rang floating market ~ Mekon Delta which Can Tho is famous for. A little Vietnamese woman drove the boat and didn’t speak a word of English but she was very sweet. At one point we got wedges between a palm tree and a big barge so we had to help pull the boat through.

We also went to a rice noodle factory to see how noodles were made. I had a go at feeding them into a machine to make the noodles!

  • Ho Chi Minh

    February 5, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

One week spent here, very nice city but so busy and loud. The roads were an obstacle course every time we wanted to cross. The pub street is as nearby which was good but very loud at night.

We visited the Post office which is a main tourist site and I posted a little gift for baby Finley and we also visited the War Remnants museum which was another somber trip.Read more

  • Cu Chi tunnels ~ Ho Chi Minh

    February 6, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

We visited the Cu Chi tunnels which were used during the war between America and Vietnam in the 60s. The Vietnamese dug hundreds of tunnels over 250km to hide from the army and to try and live secretly and safely. They also made lots of traps to try and kill the Americans. The Vietnamese today are very proud of how they have gained their independence again.Read more

  • Ho Chi Minh

    February 7, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

There’s never a dull moment over here...

The stinking squid stands that seemed to follow me everywhere!

The chicken that lost his head!

A man that was desperate for a nap he slept balanced on his scooter.

And finally a lovely reunion with some girls we met in Borneo, which included balloons, Cyclo’s, Ring of fire, too many drinks and lots of well needed laughs!

Started the day off watching the sunrise and finished it watching the sunset on the beach while watching the Kite surfers.

    February 16, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We spent the evening chasing the sunset on the back of some American guys bikes. We ended up getting separated and this nice American guy, Paul took me for dinner. Later we went into the town to watch the Chinese New Year fireworks and celebrated with the locals. The funniest moment for me was when Paul made us cruise the streets yelling “happy new year” in a strong New York accent while I was cringing with embarrassment on the back of the scooter!Read more

  • Nha Trang

    February 20, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Last day in Nha Trang, it’s been a short stay here as there wasn’t a lot to do and as it was the holidays it was very quiet.

We met a nice old man from Switzerland who was staying in Vietnam for 2 months to escape the cold weather back home. We had a coffee and a few beers with him, he had a very interesting story about his life, children and marriage which I enjoyed probing him about. Meeting people like him makes me realise there are no cliques when travelling. Identities are forgotten and everyone is bound together by the same common thread - curiosity and adventure! This is what I love about travelling, the randomness and the incredible stories you hear from around the world.

We managed to squeeze in a visit to Chong rocks and Ponaga Tower before getting a night bus to Hoi an.

    February 25, 2018 in Vietnam ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Marble mountain ~ a cluster of 5 mountains including Kim Son (metal), Moc Son (wood), Thuy Son (water), Hoa Son (fire) and Tho Son (earth). We rode here by motorbike and after the hundreds of steps we climbed we explored the caves, Pagodas and gardens.Read more
