    July 13, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

After a lazy morning, I continue through the various provincial parks in Kananaskis Country before stopping in Canmore for supplies. Driving day today, as I follow the world famous Icefields Parkway as the scenic option on my way to Mount Robson and Wells-Gray PP. Not very scenic today with rather cloudy weather, I plan to spend more time here at the end of the month.Read more

  • Jasper to Mount Robson

    July 14, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Drinking coffee with view of three glaciers is something that I don’t do very often. But that’s the advantage of being able to camp right next to Athabasca Glacier it’s two neighbors! as it’s cloudy here, I continue onto Jasper where it’s hot and sunny. I walk the.Valley of Five Lakes Trail, one of my favorite last year with incredibly colored lakes. Continuing on to Mount Robson, the highest mountain in British Columbia - I will see you last year, but the visibility was very bad because of the smoke from the wildfires. This year, no smoke! Last stop is Overlander Falls before I move to my campground at Mount Robson.Read more

  • River Safari to Wells Gray

    July 15, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

I made my way from Mount Robson to Wells Gray provincial Park today, where I will spend the next three days. Last year was cold and foggy, today the weather was perfect.Read more

  • Wells Gray Day 2

    July 17, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

I took an all day boat tour on Clearwater and Azure Lakes today. The day started out sunny and fine, while we were at rainbow beach for swimming / canoeing/ lunch all of a sudden clouds and rain - a short thunderstorm. The lake looked very different on the way back. Beautiful in every respect and every arm, the color of the water is unbelievable.Read more

  • Wells Gray Day 3

    July 18, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C

More waterfalls today on various hikes and viewpoints in the southern part of the park. It was very hot today! For the first time since I’m on tour, after three nights with no power and not a lot of driving during the day, my battery got really low and I needed to go to a campground with power to recharge it. And you may see it from the hazy air and the pictures: wildfires in the area… it has been hot and no rain for three weeksRead more

  • Kamloops to Salmon Arm

    July 20, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 35 °C

I spend the morning on administrative stuff like shopping and doing the laundry. Then I’d arrive to the city of Kamloops and actually hike up a local mountain for a view of the city in 40° heat. It was … hot … but the view not too bad considering wildfires have started. I continue to Salmon Arm, one of my favorite places for birdwatching last year. Highway 1 is closed for construction and the official detour is 20 km gravel road! The dust was partially so thick you could hardly see the road.Read more

  • Lake Moraine

    July 24, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

Lake Moraine is another place that’s unbelievably popular, for good reasons: the color of this lake is really unbelievable. But you have to take a shuttle to get there and then to escape the crowds I hiked to Consolation Lakes. In the evening, I went to Vermillion Lakes just outside Banff, another birding hotspot and very beautiful.Read more

  • Banff

    July 25, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

I wake up and it’s raining! Good that I had planned to spend the day in Banff and visit 2 museums anyway. The Whyte Art Museum and the National Park Museum - the letter is a relief from the past, both building and exhibits of taxidermy animals an example of how natural history museums were supposed to be in the 20s. The weather improves, and I walk to Bow Falls and the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, where I allow myself a nice dinner (and WiFi to post all this)Read more

We walk along Astotin Lake and get really lucky at Bison Loop on the way back: we see a large herd of Plains Bison up close! August 15, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

On the way to Kootenay NP I stop for a short hike to Twin Lakes in Bow Valley Provincial Park. After a grocery shopping stop in Canmore I pass through Banff and left at Castle Junction, reaching Kootenay, Banff NP’s extension into British Columbia. Three highlights right at the start of the park.: Marble Canyon, the Paint Pots and Numa Falls. I get into a thunderstorm on my way to the Pain Pots - the rain start up all the colorful mud in the cold springs.Read more

The reflection of the mountains in the lake are just beautiful, and amazingly the entire lake is created by a beaver dam!Read more

  • Rainy Day in Radium Hot Springs

    August 16, 2024 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C
