    A miracle

    On Saturday I get back on the road, after my niece Isabelle’s 6th birthday party. And a miracle occurs - after several calls and insistence with Edmonton Police, I actually get my bike back. Thanks to the AirTag I knew where it is. Initially, I had thought somebody had removed the attic, as I did not find the bike at the indicated location, but while in Germany, the attic moved. That indicated that it was still on the bike, and the bike had moved. So if you don’t have tracking devices on your gear yet - I heartily recommend it .Okumaya devam et

    I am on the Yellowhead Highway, one of only 2 road fully transversing the Rocky Mountains in Canada. This is the northern road, only fully completed in 1972. People followed the railroad here, once transportation was established, forestry industry and mining followed. Once in area, it was no longer attractive, everything was picked up and moved.     75% original Hudson’s Bay Company Trading Fort on Stuart Lake. A vast majority of central and western Canada was discovered by the white man through trappers and traders. I also witnessed the first and probably last chicken race of my life.     Car issues - I’m stuck in Hazelton and S

    While getting gas at a full service gas station, the idiots there put regular gasoline into my diesel tank. Believe me, you do NOT want that to happen. The engine sounds very unhealthy. I managed to roll it to a stop in front of Hazelton public library (WiFi!!!!) at 6 pm and spent an uncomfortable night there before being able to to call towing services, garages and insurance company. And as Hazelton is a small village in the middle of nowhere, it took until the late afternoon before a tow truck arrived and pulled me into the next biggest town, Smithers, where I had found a mechanic who could take a look at my car the next day, and not 2 to 4 weeks out. Big thank you to OK Tire in Smithers! I got lucky, after draining, and cleaning the tank, the engine runs fine, and in the end I lost only two days, and the insurance is going to cover most of the cost.Okumaya devam et

    This area of British Columbia has a very high percentage of indigenous population, and their rich culture. They mainly lived off fish, spending the winters in longhouses, and commemorating the ancestors in history in totem poles.     Fish Creek & Salmon Glacier

    2 big reasons to make the journey to Stewart / Hyder: bears feeding on salmon in Fish Creek, and the huge, unbelievably beautiful Salmon Glacier. Unfortunately, even though I spent about three hours over four different visits at the fish creek wildlife viewing site no bears showed up 😞 still, seeing the unbelievable amount of salmon, was definitely worth it. The black ones are pink salmon, and the greenish chum salmon.Okumaya devam et

    North Pacific Cannery Historic Site

    Want to know why salmon were decimated in the Pacific? There were over 800 Canneries like the historic site I visited today between San Francisco and Prince Rupert from about 1880 to 1980. Add to that dammed rivers, water pollution etc… anyhow, the canneries were real cities, often only accessible by boat, employing 800-1200 people per season.     A day on the ferry

    Today I took the ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy at the north end of Vancouver Island. 16,5 hours + be there 2 hours early + 1 hour to get off and go to the campground! I got up at 5 am. Fortunately, the weather improved along the way and we saw lots of humpback whales.Okumaya devam et

    Whale Watching
