Malay Wedding

I have been invited to my first Malay, and actually also my first Islamic wedding. Some very distant relative from one of the tuna boys got married but that was no reason not to join for the free meals there and to bring the Swiss guy as a general attraction...As always, someone organised a car, another one organised fuel and the third one a driver. Off we went through the endless palm oil fields in Borneo and arrived just in time for lunch. Before every meal, I think that they will struggle to serve something I didn't already have on my plate...but as always I was wrong. They took fresh coconut flesh, put it in a fire and completely burned it. Then they took the remaining ashes out of the fire and made a (of course completely black) sauce for the meat with it. It was quite good and if you happen to get a food poisoning you already took your first dose of activated charcoal...with this in mind I felt completely safe and asked for a second serving :-)Read more
