13.5.7 Comuna 13

The city of Medellín is organised in so called Comunas. Cumulative 13 has a special roll or place in Medellín, as it is home to many street art pieces, although their creators come from all places in Medellín and also from world wide.

However, their is mostly a lot of symbolism in their art through which the artists express their view of the history of Columbia and Medellín, in particular. You have to take a closer look at those paintings to realise the “real” meaning of it.
Speaking of which, the impression made is often a reference to the FARC (terrorist or rebellious group, depending on your perspective), the para militaries and the governmental corruption or misalignment with the people’s expectations.
