Detour through Nebraska

Took a little detour on our way from South Dakota to Colorado through Nebraska, in part to say I’ve been to Nebraska and in part for a few road trip stops. One included Chimney Rock, not the most exciting geological feature we’ve seen but it’s on the Nebraska state coin and other billboards and things so fun to see.

We also stopped at the Scotts Bluff National Monument, which was surprisingly cool. The 800’ hill has a split through which people traveling west would pass. It was often difficult with howling winds or deep mud. From the park we were even able to walk a portion of the original Oregon Trail. Would not have wanted to do that in a little wagon!

The drive to the top of the bluff was beautiful and we passed through the only 3 car tunnels in the whole state! Such a fun little stop.Read more
