    Night Walk

    Tonight we made a night hike through the jungel. It was really a little adventure! By the way, in this region there are also jaguars, but fortunately we didn't see any. But a very poisonous spider for humans and bullet ants. Luckily I had long pants and my trekking shoes on. One of the group was only with sandals and was bitten many times. Otherwise we had seen many frogs for example the glass frogs. The group was very funny and we had a great time. They came from Canada, Ireland, Scotland and Holland. Was nice to hear the Scottish accent again😊 the hike was finally rewarded with a fine BBQ in the hostel.Lue lisää

    Last day in Minca

    After Minca, I continued on to Santa Marta, where I will spend one night in a hostel before continuing on to Medellin tomorrow. Since a jeep would have been a bit expensive for me alone, I still dared to take a motorcycle down to Minca. My colleague had also done this the day before and it went well...so I thought why not?The yoga teacher and the two other friends I met in the hostel came with me to help and sy goodbye. That was somehow very nice😊Fully packed with my big backpack in the back, with the small bag in front and my daypack with the driver we went down the bumpy road with dozens of potholes. It was a bit adventurous and I don't know how the young man could still control the motorcycle so well. But somehow it worked and I arrived safely. In Minca I then took a Collectivo to Santa Marta.Lue lisää

    Medellin

    My update on my stay in Medellin is a little delayed, but better later than never ;)
    The first two days I mainly tried to see an ophthalmologist to have my eyes checked again. I went to a clinic. Unfortunately, the doctor couldn't speak English, but somehow I was able to explain my problem and what the doctor from Cartagena had prescribed for me. I was there for a total of 3 hours and had to wait again and again. The next day I had to go again because I could only pay in cash. And again I spent 3 hours there. At least I knew what it was in the end... an inflammation of the cornea. He prescribed me another medication, which I have to take 4 times a day. My eye is now feeling better and fortunately I can see more clearly again. However, I will certainly go to an eye specialist in Switzerland again. Finaly I was able to explore the city...Lue lisää

    Comuna 13

    Today we visited the famous Comuna 13 in Medellín. It was long considered a no-go area because of the violence of the cartells.
    But in recent years, Comuna 13 and Colombia as a whole have undergone a major transformation. From what used to be the most dangerous neighbourhood in the city, Comuna 13 has become one of the biggest sights in Colombia.Lue lisää

    El Peñón de Guatapé

    Here is a short summary of my stay in Medellin. I met two people from London and we spent most of our time together. We went together to Guatape to the famous El Pénon rock. We had to climb about 700 steps. But it was worth it.. what a beautiful view. Afterwards, we took a boat trip on the lake to an island and went swimming. For lunch, we had a huge buffet with lots of vegetarian food. It was super tasty. After lunch, we were able to visit the beautiful little town of Guatape. I didn't like Medellin that much at first, as it was very big and I didn't really feel safe. But in the end I would have liked to stay longer. The Hostel is stayed in was great. There were lots of activities, so it was easy to meet new people. For example, there was a Pre-Halloween party, Salsa/Bachata/Reggaeton dance lessons, quiz games and much more. The neighbourhood was very safe and there were many good restaurants and cafés. On the last evening we went to a salsa event with live music which was great.Lue lisää

    Beachsoccer Team Medellin

    I had the opportunity to take part in the training of the beach soccer team from Medellin. The coach is a friend of my coach. A few players from Medellin had already played with us for a season and also some of our WintiPanthers men team with them. Therefore it's kind of a friendship colobration. It was an interesting experience. Even though I haven't played since May due to my injury, I was able to keep up to some extent ;)Lue lisää

    Cascada del Amor

    My adventure continued in Jardin. After a long bus journey (7 hours) I arrived very tired. I allowed myself to a private room in a hostel just outside the small town. By chance, I met a former fellow student from the Bachelor's programme in this hostel. She had been travelling with her boyfriend for 11 months and had sailed across the ocean...It's a small world. Jardin is best known for hiking to beautiful waterfalls. The hostel was next to a waterfall (I had a view of the waterfall from my room). The breakfast was vegan, freshly prepared and very tasty. I enjoyed the peace and quiet and was able to relax a little after the trouble of the big city Medellin.Lue lisää

    Cueva del Esplendor

    Today we went on a lovely hike to the cave del esplendor. The hike lasted around 5 hours in total and took us through a varied and breathetaking landscape. It was a bit of an adventure as the path was very muddy and boggy in some parts. As a result, our shoes were very dirty and wet. It had also rained quite heavily during the night and so part of the road had slipped down. That's why we first tried to get round this part further up, but unfortunately it became almost impossible as the jungle got thicker and thicker. So we turned back and a local told us that a few people had already walked over the landslide and that it wasn't a problem. It was a bit of a queasy feeling but we took the challenge. It was very slippery, but we managed it with somewhat dirty hands and trouser. Fortunately we were able to continue the hike. Eventually it started to rain quite heavily and we had to dress accordingly with our proper rain gear. But it was worth it in the end. The waterfall was spectacular! It was a great day and I enjoyed going for a proper hike as I was really missing it.Lue lisää

    Cruzando los Andes Trekk day #1

    I signed up for a three-day trekking tour in Los Nevados Nacional Park. The entire route was over 40 kilometres and the highest point was at 4400 metres above sea level. On this trekking tour, you were supposed to see various volcanoes such as the still active Tolima volcano. Another highlight is the Laguna del Otun. The start was in Salento and the end in Manizales. We were provided with rain trousers, walking sticks, food and snacks. We had to buy or rent everything else ourselves in a small sports shop with the name kilometre zero. Fortunately, I was well equipped and only had to buy rubber boots. The first day we met at the Paramo Trekk Office at 7.00 am. The group consisted of two people from France, 3 from Belgium, 2 guides (one english and one spanish speaker), someone from the trek office and me. First we had a power breakfast in a local restaurant. On the first day, we had to master almost 1000 metres in altitude. First, the path led through the Cocora Valley through the forest, over various bridges. Every now and then we stopped and Andres, the English-speaking guide, gave us some interesting information about the ecosystem and Flora and Fauna. The lunch was also very tasty, I somehow expected just a sandwich, but there was pasta and for me as a vegetarian even with vegetables and quorn strips. The first day was exhausting and challenging. Especially the backback i became from the office wasn't that confortable because there was always pressure on my back where I injured myself in May. Luckily, Jan, the guy from the trekking office changed the backback with me after lunch. Finally, after about 7 hours, we arrived at Finca La Argentina.Lue lisää

    Finca la Argentina

    Finca La Argentina is situated at 3400 metres above sea level. A family lives there all year round and accommodates hikers. The rooms are very simple, like in a hostel, but very cosy. The view was marvellous and we enjoyed the last rays of sunshine. It has sheep, chickens, donkeys, pigs and much more. We were able to enjoy a typical Colombian dinner. We had potato soup and rice with vegetables and beans for the main course. We all went to bed at half past eight as we had to get up at 6am the next morning and were all very tired. Despite three layers of clothes, legs and upper body and four blankets, it was very cold that night.Lue lisää
