  • First stop gas - BP in Cleveland, OH

    July 31, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

The major expense with Bliss Bus is gas and we were running on empty when we stopped in Cleveland to fill up at BP. But it was cheaper than PA and between GasBuddy and Upside found the best station with an additional $0.1/gallon back. Not much but $3.28 is better than the $3.79 in Erie! Unfortunately had to run across the street to Wendy's as there wasn't a restroom at the this small station. 😜Read more

  • Nature dinner stop - Indiana Dunes NP

    July 31, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

One of the newest National Parks was only an 8 minute detour so of course we took the opportunity to walk, explore nature and have dinner. It was a quick trip and after a long day, a mile walk up and down 270 stairs, we sauteed mushrooms in olive oil and added a packet of veggie korma and one of seven grains and lentils and topped with sushi ginger and mango pickles. A delicious sunset dinner at a very exclusive life guard stand bench on Lake Michigan with Chicago skyline views!Read more

  • Overnight stop - Cracker Barrel

    July 31, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 72 °F

Life on the road is not always glamorous. We are grateful for the business that allow us to park for free, especially ones with a touch of nature behind them, like this Cracker Barrel in Hammond, IN. Total of 450 miles for nearly 12 hours of travel with stops and $181.80 spent on fuel for us and bus.Read more

  • Six Flags

    August 1, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

After ResoNate bravely drove us through Chicago traffic for 110 minutes. We arrived at Six Flags Great America. We had our delicious breakfast at the picnic bench and entered the park. We were able to get first and last row on X Flight (back is definitely bumpier), 2nd row on Goliath (awesome but a bit jarring), 1st row on The Flash (only one extra turn and well worth it), Batman (last row), the Joker (first? Last? Row), and Superman (2nd row) before lunch of leftover Blaze pizza. Duncan didn't eat a piece of crust but a swarm of ants were quickly devouring it. Then into Hurricane Harbor for Tsunami Surge water coaster, Wipe Out, Lazy River, and Tornado. Bonus of warm showers - a luxury on the road!. Back to Bliss Bus and Duncan for Succotash Avocado and chips for dinner. On the last stretch in the park we rode Maxx Force (row 1), Viper (walk on to middle row), Giant drop (walk on through slot canyon walls), Chubasco (giant tea cups), Raging Bull (middle row), Justice League (not Sunshine's favorite but they have cool animatronic), X Flight (walk on 2nd row), Flash (1st row), Joker, and Gotham City Rail (1st row). Not bad for a summer day!Read more

  • Another Cracker Barrel Overnight

    August 1, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 73 °F

Not as nice as last night but fairly quiet despite being next to interstate and sorry close to Six Flags. Total 73 miles of driving about 6.5 miles of walking (includes rides but not Hurricane Harbor) and no expenses (aside from existing Six Flags membership for $7/ea per month and food already purchased).Read more

  • Mitchell Park Domes Conservatory

    August 2, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 77 °F

We drove an hour to Milwaukee and used our museum and horticulture museum pass for the very cool Mitchell Park Domes which has tropical, show, and dessert domes with plants from around the world and right now dinosaurs. We are our breakfast on a picnic bench outside first and took Duncan on a walk to the pond. We decided not to deal with downtown traffic and parking and skipped the Milwaukee Public Museum.Read more

  • Devil's Lake State Park

    August 2, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 86 °F

We had a quick visit to the Devil's Lake State Park (America the Beautiful a Interagency Pass accepted) Nature Center and then chilled by the pet friendly beach and picnic area for a couple hours. We ate some snacks including truffle vegan aioli on baguette with dukkah seasoning, fresh cherry tomatoes and basil. Then we made a 0.8 mile round trip hike to elephant rock. Wish we felt better to do the full 3 mile loop!Read more

  • Circus World Museum

August 3, 2023 in the United States

Another great museum included in our NARM membership! While we don't agree with all the circus practices, it was definitely interesting seeing the elaborate carriages, the effort that went into a traveling circus and the shows were entertaining.Read more

  • Lower Hixon Forest Hike

August 4, 2023 in the United States

It was a very peaceful night and we slept in and then moved to the trailhead for bathroom, breakfast and hike. Lots of options but it was getting warm and we had a drive, so just did the 2.2 mi 450' elevation out and back to rim of the city vista. A nice shaded hike with more cool "baleen" tree trunk and more mushrooms. Duncan was impressed with ResoNate's handstand.Read more

  • Family home

    August 4, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

Made it to Sunshine's family home to visit with her parents before their travels to AK. Total 281 miles, 2.3 miles walking, and $98.16 in fuel for us and Bliss Bus.

  • Family time

    August 5, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

While the Bliss Bus didn't move we traveled via other vehicles including motorcycles (Resonate's first road trip since becoming licensed before leaving Erie), Camaro convertible and side by side to visit Sunshine's family in Edgerton, Slayton, and Brandon (SD). We saw Sunshine's parents off on their first day of vacation to Alaska.Read more
