The Greek Island of Kefalonia in the Ionian Sea
Was surprisingly not what we expected it to be.
We drove along the winding, west coastal way
To our Zola cottage overlooking a gorgeous bay.

With expansive water, azure blue and enticing
Reached by a zigzag road, steep & frightening.
Here the local cafe served us delicious affogatos
Aside fresh Greek salad with feta and tomatoes.

Diverted up a steep hill to find the Chiesa Bell
An arid area with a pungent, eucalyptus smell.
Spied some fish farms along with cruise ships
Stopping for a bite of crusty bread & tasty dips.

Further along rock strewn roads, we did reach
The Island’s beautiful renowned, Myrtos Beach.
Made up of white pebbles smoothed by waves
Whose relentless swell forms limestone caves.

The turquoise warm water had strong undertows
Affront of sun beds & umbrellas uniformly in rows.
Where, steadfastly sunbathing with the odd rotation
Lay many English folk deduced by their conversation.

Dover like white cliffs appear stark and steep
Rhythmically lapped by waters dark and deep.
Best to be viewed from the deck of a tour boat
To 5 secluded beaches you can swim and float.

Devoured a seafood dinner with octopus grilled
Accompanied with local retsina, slightly chilled.
Delicious thick yogurt topped with walnuts & honey
Definitely not cheap as more on par with our money.
