• Argostoli

Awoke to chickens cackling their morning talk
Goats grazing, tinkling their bells as they walk
Amongst white washed walls and groves behind.
It’s the kind of wake up call I definitely don’t mind.

Absorbing the view from hammock or easy chair
Sparse vegetation clings to earth, rocky and bare.
Terraced rock walls allow sheep or olive farming
Creating this island which feels rustically charming.

The De Bosset bridge spans Argostoli’s waters wide
Where in it’s harbour, loggerhead turtles gently glide.
Feeding on sea grass, surfacing to breathe in air
Whilst tourists crowd around to amaze and stare.

Circular St. Theodore lighthouse is pillared and white
Perfect to shelter a storm and watch lightening strike.
Close by is an Argostoli phenomenon of a sink hole,
With a slow waterwheel around which you can stroll.

Across the island to Efimiri we drove for a flat white
Then wandered Old Vlachata for it’s ruins to sight.
Of a town abandoned after the 1953 earthquake
An added bonus, a drone shot of Melissani Lake.
