• Fiskado and Assos

    September 8, 2023 in Greece ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Took a less travelled road to Fiskado with sharp curves
Around many mountain goat herds, we had to swerve.
Earthquake undamaged, it remains more original
With bougainvillea covered homes looks traditional.

Chillaxed in wooden chairs deciding what to eat
Numerous cats prowl & entwine around our feet.
Invited into the taverna to observe multiple dishes
Friendly staff eager to help fulfil our dietary wishes.

Strong winds made it unappealing going for swims
So drove to Lixouri along roads resembling hairpins.
Wandered the shops & by central square we did sit
To enjoy local pastries and aromatic coffee for a bit.

Passed ridges lined with energy making windmills
To Assos’s Venetian castle perched up on the hills.
It’s beautiful isthmus with houses tangerine & pink
A perfect spot to watch the setting sun, slowly sink.

Chris always looked for figs ripening on trees
If not in private gardens were perfect to seize.
With plentiful fresh produce to create a great meal
Served up on our cottage terrace with a view ideal.

Cicadas serenade us from cypress pines and palms
White sailboats glide the horizon as the ocean calms.
The day fading, time to refresh with a Mythos beer
Living this Greek way of life is so appealing here.
