• Lake Argyle and the Bungle Bungles

    June 7, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 28 °C

Wyndham is an even smaller town with a port
Busy with road trains as here livestock is brought.
Famous for it’s handmade Barra or Crocodile pie
Enjoyed at Five River Lookout perched up high.

Impressive Lake Argyle formed by a single dam wall
It’s many islands jut out from the land that was tall.
So vast we boarded a day cruise to take our time
To see wild life and it’s infamous pink diamond mine.

Golden Orb spider webs resembling candy floss
Fossicking unique zebra rocks under dried moss.
At sunset dove in the lake off the back of the boat
Whilst nibbles and champagne around us did float.

Purnululu National Park by Cessna is a 1 hour flight
The Bungle Bungles from the air a remarkable sight.
But up close their striped beehive like domes amaze
Venturing into Cathedral Gorge you constantly gaze.

The ethereal quality of this area totally astounds
But must be constantly aware of your surrounds.
Fellow tourist slipped and a broken ankle did occur
Satellite phone used and the Flying Doctor airlifted her.

Flying back at sunset admiring this awesome landscape
I sincerely urge you all to experience an outback escape.
Although retired at the end of this fortnight’s ‘vacation’
We’re joining the ‘labour call’ to work on a cattle station.
