    June 10 in England ☁️ 16 °C

Roadworks and detours caused some concerns
As mis-navigation resulted in us missing a turn!
Hence an itinerary change which was rather a pity
Parked and took a bus into central Winchester city.

Midday bells rang as we spied the Guild Hall
The tall spired cathedral certainly did enthral.
Strolled in the shade of the adjoining porticoes
Around the cloister homes, enjoying a good nose.

Passed by a building that was Jane Austen’s home
Alongside a stream to the Old Bishop’s Palace to roam
Around Wolvesey Castle ruins under a sky that was black
As all lunch places appeared closed we chose to go back.

To our next AirBnB on a private estate which was very nice
It’s comfortable furnishings and external fire-pit did entice.
Peaceful and tranquil the local ducks we did feed
Quiet downtime seemingly perfect for our needs.

The following day brought more clouds and was wet
Drove via the New Forest but out of the car didn’t get!
At Milford on Sea saw the needles of the Isle of Wight
Yet the new beach huts were not an aspiring sight.

Attempted a beach dune walk but got totally soaked
Continued onto Lymington but the rain was a joke!
Spent time reading at our lodgings, as no need to hurry
Before dinner back in Winchester, a tasty Gurkha curry.

Clothes washed and finished off in the tumble dryer
Evening spent rugged up around our creek side fire.
Reminiscing whilst sipping glasses of cider and wine
Appreciating the atmosphere of the English countryside.
