Savuti, Chobe National Park

Drove down to Savuti for 3 nights and were glad that the sand wasn’t as bad as we remembered (it had been a terrifying experience crossing a huge sand ridge on our past trip). The landscape there is very different, more dry and with large stands of baobob trees. Very beautiful. We saw some amazing elephants at the water holes there, a lioness in the distance, and most exciting of all a group of 4 wild dogs! We’ve been fortunate enough to now see wild dogs 5 different times! This sighting was interesting because the dogs had just eaten and were simply sleeping on the road. We were able to observe them for a few hours, sleeping, playing, and interacting with each other and sometimes with the vehicles there – including chewing on our tire - as they’re very inquisitive creatures.Read more
Lucinda Ayers So glad to see you back on the grid, even if only for a short time. I was beginning to get Dobbs withdrawal. 😎. Such great pictures of the dogs being peaceful and playful. But you know it's the little elephants that tug my heartstrings.

Dobbs Away II You would have loved the little ellies --- we didn't get a video but there were 2 little ones - one slightly bigger playing and grabbing trunks, pushing, etc. Then the bigger one decided to lay down on its' side -- the littlie quickly sat on top of his big belly and promptly tumbled over backward. Hilarious!

Day 4
Chobe Nationalpark, Botswana

Um 7.10 Uhr wurde ich vom Bus abgeholt. Auf dem Weg zur Grenze nach Botswana haben wir schon Baboons und Elefanten am Straßenrand gesehen.

An der Grenze mussten wir zweimal den Pass stempeln lassen - zum "Ausschecken" aus Simbabwe und zum "Einscheken" in Botswana. Und unsere Schuhe mussten wir von unter säubern; wobei ich bezweifle, dass einmal ins Wasser treten so viel bringt.😅

In Botswana ging es dann zuerst in ein Hotel, wo wir eingewiesen wurden (Tagesablauf und so) und dann sind wir mit der Chobe River Tour gestartet. Gesehen haben wir u.a. Krokodile, viele Elefanten und Büffel, Hippos, Warane.

Nach der River Tour sind wir zurück ins Hotel gefahren und haben dort Mittag gegessen - sehr leckeres Buffet! Danach ging's auf in den Chobe Nationalpark zum Game Drive. Auch hier haben wir viele Elefanten, Giraffen, verschiedene Antilopen-Arten und zum Schluss auch noch Zebras gesehen. Super schön die Tiere frei und in ihrer normalen Umgebung zu sehen. 😍😍
Löwen haben wir leider nicht gesehen; die schlafen tagsüber im Schatten. Nicht die schlechteste Idee - kann ich bei den Temperaturen auf jeden Fall voll verstehen!😆

Nach dem Game Drive sind wir wieder zurück gefahren - ausschecken in Botswana und einchecken in Simbabwe. Mit dem KAZA Univisa zum Glück kein Problem. 😊
