    This weekend away is Jen’s 60th birthday gift from Ty and Ally.
    So we left mid morning to travel to Avoca and stopped at a cool little eatery called Zest on the way.
    Very highly rated on google and delivered...
    Lamb salad and big veggie breakfast for the golden girl.

    Myrtleford is typical of many small rural towns who are developing their own profile as a reason to visit and this store we visited was no exception.
    It contained a cool shop that contained old Asian artifacts that you could use to enhance either indoor or outdoor spaces.Leia mais

    This is another example of a rural town that is reinventing itself. Great cafes and local shops make small townships inviting and vibrant.

    Myrtleford is a town in northeast Victoria, Australia, 280 km (170 miles) northeast of Melbourne and 46 km (29 miles) southeast of Wangaratta. Myrtleford is part of the Alpine Shire local government area and in 2016 the town had a population of 3,193.Leia mais

    We struck the most beautiful Autumn day in Bright...not a cloud in the sky. Ace discovered the river and demonstrated some of his independence by going out into the deeper water 💦 and getting a feel for it.
    Great place for family holidays and hiking or cycling into the adjacent mountains. Strong mountain bike population and is a great location for these types of off road rides.    Leia mais

    Bright is such a lovely place to visit and it reminds me of Daylesford and it is becoming a vibrant rural community especially after the recent COVID pandemic.
    Ace discovered the river and the river bank and in his own way a unique form of tumble drying 😂😂😂🤣
    We stayed at an air BnB with a lovely host whose name was Angela who had a history of childcare and was an immigrant from Argentina...    Leia mais

    Yakandandah Brewing

    One of the best little rural businesses we came across on our trip. Young couple who spent the last two years perfecting the distilling of whisky and gin.
    Then had a space come up and they converted it into a cool space to permanently showcase their stills and product.
    They also plan to convert the guards train carriage into a coffee lounge with the cafe fare.
    The energy of the couple and their dreams was inspiring.

    Some more photos of our brief stop over. River walk was interesting and a timely reminder of the damage floods can do although have said that we were pleasantly surprised that a recent native garden planting along the river bank seemed to have survived.

    We decided to break the trip up regularly which works for Ace and also me as a driver.
    We stopped at Newcastle and enjoyed a coffee at the Fat Wombat as well as a light breakfast.
    Took a short walk to a great little park that had been adapted from old bricks and rocks used from historical buildings.Leia mais

    Seal Rocks

    This is a really beautiful part of this area and reminded me of aspects of Pt Roadknight beach as it was a perfect area for people to learn to surf.
    This was also the second opportunity to take our new car onto the sand and test it out.
    Getting onto the beach involved going through quite deep sand and the biggest learning for me was how much the steering wheel moves around in your hand due to the resistance of the sand against the rims.
    Yet it was worth it as a first 4x4 wheel drive experience.
    Our car also has 3 x 4x4 wheel drive settings...snow and ice, road ruts and sand and inclines etc.
    I would happily revisit Seal Rocks as it would be a brilliant place to stay for a longer period.    Leia mais

    Boomerang Beach

    Boomerang Beach is shaped like a boomerang...funny about that. In any case it has some really good breaks at either end of the beach.
    You can see a lifeguard in his beach tent in this photo...
    Actually the lifeguard demonstrated some real water skill this morning by greeting all of the surfers as they came out of the water.

    Boomerang Beach is a locality and beach in the township of Pacific Palms, New South Wales. It is home to many marine creatures such as whales and dolphins. Recreational activities include swimming, surfing, fishing as well as snorkelling. The beach is surrounded by Booti Booti National Park. The 1.45 km beach is backed by a large vegetation sandbank and residences overlook the beach. This beach is only patrolled in summer and, with a moderately hazardous surf, caution should be taken when participating in water activities. North Boomerang is typically favoured for surfing whereas South Boomerang is sparsely used.    Leia mais

    Tuncurry Rockpool

    What’s up here is that we spied a protected headland which was netted and provided a beautiful place to swim.
    The water up here is so much warmer than down in Melbourne and would sit at approximately 22-23 degrees Celsius.
    This is area is currently being remodeled by the council and makes a perfect place for kids to learn how to swim. Just outside the netted area is a very deep channel and on the tide change runs very quickly.    Leia mais

    Green Point & Wallis Lake

    We travelled to Green Point to have our business meeting as well as doing a little bit of four wheel driving which gave us access to some other areas of the lake.
    The cafe at Green Point really prided themselves on outstanding cakes and service which was delight considering how isolated they were.
    The lake is used mostly for small fishing excursions and we were told that flathead and bream are common fish in the lake. Most of the lakes are brackish due partly to their close proximity to the coastline.    Leia mais

    Forster

    We visited Headland Beach and observed a pod of 40-50 dolphins about 30 metres off shore. Very picturesque and impressive especially when you consider a family holiday.
    Forster is a coastal town in the Mid North Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, in the Mid-Coast Council LGA, about 308 km north-north-east of Sydney.
    It is immediately adjacent to its twin, Tuncurry, which is the smaller of the two towns. Forster is known for its stunning waters & Manning Valley.

    Forster is named after William Forster, who also was the 2nd Premier of New South Wales and who later served as Agent-General in London.

    The first post office in Forster opened on 1 October 1872, with John Wyllie Breckenridge as postmaster at a salary of £10 a year.    Leia mais

    Palm Beach

    This was a beautiful little spot about five kilometers from where we stayed overnight.
    The thing I love about Sydney architecture generally is its ability to capture the character of the history of the area and blend it beautifully into the natural landscape.
    In one of the photos you can see a piece of furniture that has washed up on the beach from the recent floods. We experienced more of this as we travelled up the coast.

    Palm Beach is a suburb in the Northern Beaches region of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Palm Beach is located 41 kilometres (25 mi) north of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of Northern Beaches Council. Palm Beach sits on a peninsula at the end of Barrenjoey Road, between Pittwater and Broken Bay. The population of Palm Beach was 1,593 as at the 2016 census.

    Palm Beach is sometimes colloquially referred to as 'Palmy'; and is used for exterior filming of the soap opera Home and Away, as the fictional town of Summer Bay. It is also the subject of the 2018 film 'Palm Beach'. Despite the hefty property prices it remains a haven for a variety of artists. Writing celebrating this beach is featured in “Guide to Sydney Beaches” Meuse Press. Palm Beach housing ranges from cottages to grand estates, owned by some of the country's most affluent people. Many affluent and famous people can also be found holidaying at Palm Beach in summer. According to the Australian Taxation Office statistics for the financial year of 2016-2017, Palm Beach and the post code of 2108 was the wealthiest suburb in Australia, with an average taxable income of $230,000.     Avalon Beach

    Well this is one of the Northern Beach suburbs and the median house price is 2.3 million if you don’t mind and the houses are nothing special but as they say in real estate...location, location, location.
    We stayed overnight in a little clean beach shack owned by Hendricka and sampled some of the local pizza fare which was a little walk from the house.
    In the morning we came across an urban pig of all things...and a big one at that.

    Mittagong

    Stopped for a pleasant lunch at a local cafe bistro called the Shaggy Cow.
    Lovely small town just outside Sydney...

    The name "Mittagong" is said to come from an Aboriginal word meaning "little mountain". Other suggested meanings are "a companion" and "plenty of native dogs", as the Mittagong range was home to many dingos at one time.Leia mais

    Yass

    Yass strikes me as a very historical town with some beautiful old buildings some of which I managed to capture here.
    Great reminder of the Ampol brand which was marketed as an all Australian brand back when I was a boy.

    Yass is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Yass Valley Council. The name appears to have been derived from an Aboriginal word, "Yarrh" (or "Yharr"), said to mean 'running water'.

    Yass is located 280 km south-west of Sydney, on the Hume Highway. The Yass River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River, flows past the town. Yass is 59 km from Canberra; lying at an altitude of 505 m AMSL.

    Yass has a historic main street, with well-preserved 19th-century verandah post pubs (mostly converted to other uses). It is popular with tourists, some from Canberra and others taking a break from the Hume Highway.    Leia mais
