• Muscat, Oman - Souk & Buildings 2 of 4

    24. april 2023, Oman ⋅ ⛅ 90 °F

After driving around and seeing all the interesting new buildings, all very large and beautify done (i.e., the Royal Opera House) we went to the Muttrah Souk also known as the bazaar, discount marketplace, mall, exchange, marketplace. None of these are exciting for us although most of our friends made major purchases. We did walk around ( we had been there in 2015) and smell the fragrant spices, mostly saffron and frankincense. There were many booths with clothing of all types and interesting colors and designs, wraps, lighting, jewelry, daggers, cloth for sale, perfumes, and wood carvings. It was a maze of stores but we made no purchases … we almost never do. It is interesting that Muscat has a long history of being part of different countries and although the first Arabic country to be independent, there are still many influences from a mix of Arabic and African (turban) cultures.Les mer
