• Central Synagogue Saturday MISHKAN

    August 1 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

Mishkan is a "dwelling" and the portable sanctuary/Temple that the Israelites traveled with through the desert during the Exodus from Egypt. Our Saturday morning Services are referred to as Mishkan since it travels around the various Central Synagogue venues and represents a more intimate focused Service and Torah Study than the Friday night Services held with the entire band, choir, many clergy and the multi-media event that has become its tradition that we love.

This Saturday morning was very special as Lee and Mollie joined us, we actively participated in Services and Torah Study and we had the honor of an Aliyah and of Gelilah (dressing / undressing of the Torah which includes the fastening of the sash/belt, placing the decorative mantle cover on, the pointer/yad onto the Torah). You will see a photo of the Neighborhood (our online Community) that dials in every Shabbat on a Zoom call and interacts with the Service during various parts of the Service as well as actively during the Study component. We are a group of about 60-100 (depending on the week) that look forward to dialing in on Shabbat morning. I always get up at 6am PT to get on the Zoom and be one of those little boxes but this week I got to get up a few hours later and be there "life-size" with my family!

An extra treat was to see the original artwork from the New Haggadah. Siona Benjamin, an Indian American Jewish artist from Israel, created the beautiful artwork for Haggadah Shel Erev Rav, Mixed Multitude, our new Haggadah from this past Passover. I had the honor of being one of the first to use it during a Service while at Sea for Passover as I led a wonderful evening and Seder with 120 of my closest friends. Soooo Special.
