Today, we visited beautiful Barbados! Our first stop was the Gun Hill Signal Station, used by the British to warn of escaped slaves or rebellious uprisings. Next, we visited the Tropical Botanical Gardens, where we saw numerous plants native to the island. Our final stop was the Sunbury Plantation, the home of the Mount Gay Rum Distillery. Barbados claims to be the original home of rum production. Molasses is a plentiful byproduct of the sugar cane industry on the island and is used along with yeast and water to produce rum.Read more
