    At Arnaud

    March 19, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

St Arnaud was settled during the gold rush of 1855 as 'New Bendigo', but was soon renamed St Arnaud to honour the Commander of the French forces Jacques le Roy de Saint Arnaud. It is an impressive historic town full of old pubs, shops and elegant two storey buildings. Local artist Kyle Torney used images of a gold prospector and his wife and son to tell the gold mining story of the past.

On the way out of town we visited The Stick Shed in Murtoa. It was the first emergency bulk wheat storage shed built in Victoria and is the only remaining shed of this type in Australia. The Stick Shed covers 16,000m2 under roof and measures 265 metres long, 60 metres wide and almost 20 metres high at its apex.

  • Mount Gambier

    March 20, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Stayed at the Blue Lake Holiday Park. We took the 3.6km walk around the Blue Lake. The Blue Lake/Warwar in Mount Gambier occupies one of the craters of the maar volcano after which the city has been named. The lake provides an ever-changing blue colour throughout the year. Each November, as the water warms, the lake's darker blue, changes to an intense deep turquoise blue.

Umpherston Sink Hole and Valley was a garden created in the 19th century by James Umpherston for the townspeople of Mount Gambier.

  • Robe SA

    March 22, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Stayed at Robe Sea Vu Caravan Park. Now home to about 1500 people, Robe remains one of southern Australia's most popular holiday destinations and we can see why. It’s unspoilt scenery, old-world charm, laidback lifestyle, and popular eateries serving fresh local produce and premium local wines are amazing. A couple of our favourites were the Caledonian Inn for dinner and the Black Swan for afternoon Tapas.

Long Beach is an iconic Robe attraction with picturesque aqua blue water and 12 kilometers of white sandy beach that you can drive on. Great spot for swimming and enjoying the sunshine.

  • Victor Harbor

    March 26, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

We walked out to Granite Island also known as Nulcoowarra and was formed over 500 million years ago when magma was squeezed up from deep within the earth. It covers 25 hectares and is the largest island off the shores of Victor Harbor. It is home to fairy penguins and wallabies with a 1.9km tourist walk around the island. Went to Point Elliot, Horseshoe Bay for a swim and a beach day. Went to Rapid Bay which was named after Colonel William Light’s 162 ton survey brig the Rapid. It was mined for its limestone by BHP from 1942-1981. These days it’s knows for the long jetty built in 1942. We enjoyed it for the clear blue water and the sushine.Read more

  • Point Turton

    April 2, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Point Turton, on the York Peninsula, overlooks the beautiful blue waters and white beaches of stunning Hardwicke Bay. The Caravan Park is at the site of the old quarry. A great little park with no bells and whistles just a basic caravan park next to the jetty.

We were lucky enough to have a four wheel drive to spend our time here exploring between Point Turton and Hardwick Bay. Here you will find hundreds of meters of white sand and pristine blue water at Flaherty Beach and most of the time we had the beach to ourselves.

    April 5, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Moonta Bay is located in the Copper Coast region of the Northern Yorke Peninsula, adjacent to the historic town of Moonta and Port Hughes. Monte Bay is known for bringing us the best Cornish Pasties and the bakery lives up to that expectation.

It is also know for the beautiful copper sunsets and as you can see from the photo's they are amazing.

The heritage town of Moonta with loads of copper mining history has a great little train ride through the old Moonta Township and will worth the tour.

  • Wilpena Pound Resort

    April 7, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

The Flinders Ranges are the largest mountain ranges in South Australia, which starts about 200 km north of Adelaide. The ranges stretch for over 430 km from Port Pirie to Lake Callabonna. The Adnyamathanha people are the Aboriginal group who have inhabited the range for tens of thousands of years.

Flinders Rangers can only be summed up in one word "EPIC".

Staying at Wilpena Pound Resort there was a lot to fit into the short time we had there.

We spent a full day four wheel driving the gorges and tracks exploring this amazing place. Driving the unsealed road to Parachilna where we found the Prairie Hotel. Fourth generation Flinders Ranges pastoralist and cattleman Ross Fargher and wife Jane, bought their ‘local’ in 1991. They have created an unexpected oasis here in the Outback. I tried my first Roo burger but will also be my last.

Our following day was spent walking 10km to the top of Wangara Lookout with its deep red mountains and jagged peaks you have a panoramic view of Wilpena Pound.

We then topped a perfect day at Stokes Lookout with a glass of wine and an amazing sunset.

  • Coffin Bay

    April 16, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Coffin Bay was such a surprise. We loved it. The sun was shining and we made the most of it. Our first day was spent at Long Beach just outside of the National Park. Beautiful spot for a swim. We then went and brought oysters and made Oysters Kilpatrick for dinner at the caravan park. The following day we packed a lot into. Went for a 4WD at the National Park. After paying the $12 park fee and airing down our tyres we drove through the 4WD track’s into the National Park. It was absolutely beautiful. After this we came back to town for a quick dip before setting out with Experience Coffin Bay for a tour of the oyster farms. With a bottle of champagne and half a dozen freshly shucked oysters we listened to a very informative talk on how the oyster farms are formed and the history of Coffin Bay. After our tour concluded we then went back to Long Beach and drove up to the sand dunes, climbed to the top and watched the sun set.Read more

  • Sandy Cape Recreation Park

    May 16, 2022 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

Today we arrived in Jurien Bay and decided to pull up at Sandy Bay Recreational Campground. Great spot with flushing toilets, campfire and right next to the beach. First two days were beautiful days and we got to have a swim and a fire for the first two nights but our last day was wet. Very wet over night and the mud was incredible. We did use this day though to go see the Pinnacles which was amazing. Not sure if you need any longer here but it has a great foreshore lined with little cafes and a really lovely beach. The bike paths are awesome and we spent the days here riding, sitting in the foreshore parks and eating at the Freemason Hotel. I would recommend this place to anyone going to Geraldton. • Kalbarri

    May 23, 2022 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

Kalbarri. Wow. We love it here. Gorgeous little town in the middle of a beautiful national park. We stayed at Red Bluff Caravan Park. Has to be one of the best parks we have stayed at. Our first day we spent exploring the National Park. Went to the sky deck, natures window and did the Ross River trail down to the Murchison River. Once again great bike paths and hikes. Loved sitting by the rock pools watching a the surfers at Red Bluff but the high light for me would be Blue Holes. We spend two days of our trip snorkeling this amazing beach which sits behind a reef. Colorful fish and rock formations in the water followed by a BBQ and happy hour at the caravan park. Met Phil and Kelly here who were next to us at the park along with Gary and Kim who gave us some great tips on traveling further up north. 10/10 for Kalbarri and we were told today it only gets better as we go up the WA coast.Read more
