The Chinese University of Hong Kong

    September 4, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

This university was like home for me. I would have never thought i could get so attached to it after a year of studies here - but I did not want to leave anymore! The environment, the nature, the lovely campus with amazing facilities, the sports, and especially the people - I will never forget this year at CUHK and what it had taught me - way deeper than simply academical knowledge!!

I will always remember Vindaloo - that group of internationals (+Chloe) who were all so unique and special in their own way... our monopoly evenings, potluck evenings, or simple movie nights - it was always fantastic!

And Clover, my dear volunteering team, thank you for all the experience I have gained through you! (Even though sometimes it was reallllyyyy hard work and frustrating, it was worth it!)

  • Sha Tin

    September 12, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

Sha Tin District is one of the 18 districts of Hong Kong - the metro station Sha Tin was only 2 away from our university, so I used to go here a lot. It is useful for any kind of shopping (they even have an IKEA!!!), or to get a bus from here to other places like to Sai Kung or the airport bus A41 ;)

Sha Tin has great parks, great shopping malls, awesome restaurants (I will always remember the hot pot place Kuba and I used to go to!!!) and dessert places (with healthy mango desserts ;) and there are also the 10,000 Buddha statues, easy to find from Sha tin metro and bus terminal.

P.S.: they also rent bikes here! great to take a tour to Tai Wai markets or some other place!!

  • Taipei

    October 8, 2014 in Taiwan ⋅ 🌬 25 °C

My first trip out of Hong Kong to see more of Asia - together with a group of other international students, we visited the capital city of Taiwan. It was a great trip, i found out a lot about what i liked and did not like to do during travelling with friends, and i learned a lot about how different each Asian culture could be.. A first taste to what was awaiting me the coming year when i would travel more and more more around Asia!!!Read more

  • Lantau Island

    October 29, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

This is one of my favourite islands of Hong Kong - so much nature! There is the big buddha statue on Lantau (which is an amazing, hard but totally worth-it hike if up for it!) and there are some amazing beaches here as well! There is also the lovely fishervillage Tai O.

I will always remember Lantau after I won the first position in the 13.5km Lantau Run for all women from Tung Chung to Tai O village!

  • Zengchen

    November 4, 2014 in China ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Guangzhou province - teaching Chinese to local students was an amazing experience for me. I went twice on this trip, and each time I learned so much and I was so happy to give knowledge, energy and motivation to these students. I hope they will get far, and will be able to see that learning English and saving their money for travelling and education is the right thing to do..Read more

  • Around Sai Kung

    December 2, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

This is also an incredible part of Hong Kong - one would not expect to find so much adventurous, unexplored land in a city like Hong Kong. New Territories has gigantic hills, beautiful hikes, fisher villages, Islands like Sharp island, and beaches like the Sai Wan beach with its waterfall... so much, so amazing, so adventurous!

I will especially remember Sai Kung for our Dragonboat training in the beautiful water there!

  • Tai To Yan Hike

    December 9, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

    Tai To Yan.
An 8,9 km hike (it says 4 hours in the guides but it took us less than 3 hours i think) this hike brings you to Lam Tsuen Country Park in the Northern New Territories. Beautiful hike! It was very hot, even when already winter in Hong Kong... but so worth it!!!Read more

  • The Peak

    December 11, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Victoria Peak (太平山) with altitude of 552 m (1,811 ft) is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island. I went several times, at night and at day time, because the view is incredible and I love the hike up! It is short but super steep, and we managed to go up on New Year's Eve with my brother and dad in like 30min, so that we could be up there to see the beautiful fireworks all over Hong Kong Island! It was great!

They have a nice Starbucks Cafe and Haegen Dasz, and lots of other touristy shops and cafes (even a Forrest Gump Shop & Restaurant) but mostly expensive of course, but it is worth to come here simply for the view!!

  • Sham Shui Po

    December 13, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

We became very familiar with this District in Hong Kong because we stayed for several weeks at a nice apartment that we rented through airbnb.com

We loved it here! Sham Shui Po offers the perfect real-life-Hong-Kong experience with its many authentic Hong Kong markets and its working-class neighbourhood. Great and cheap places to eat, shop and stay at!

Our favourite breakfast place served Western breakfasts with eggs and coffee, while for dinner there was a huge variety of places to go - Japanese (sushi, sushi, sushi!) to Thai to Chinese to Western food!

  • Big Wave Bay, Shek O

    December 15, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Big Wave Bay Beach was a beautiful beach which we really wanted to come back to and try some surfing or windsurfing here! It is located at the scenic eastern end of Hong Kong Island, close to the Dragon’s Back hiking trail (an amazing and exhausting hike that then continues to Shek O Beach - another beautiful beach to chill at)Read more

  • Xcountry and Athletics Team

    December 17, 2014 in Hong Kong ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Joining the xcountry and athletics team was one of the best things I could have done during my time at CUHK - their enthusiasm, energy, determination and skill has not only helped me to improve my own fitness level to one of the top runners for my college WYS, but also to gain a great group of amazing friends who I will stay in contact with for forever! Kelly, Charmaine, Long Long, Rani and Diana are only some of the amazing people I have met through xcountry, who have not only helped me to join many other races later on, but also to do other activities in Hong Kong like going swimming in Sha Tin and Tai Wai, or going to new places, markets and food corners.

I also want to thank my amazing coaches who have with their friendliness, patience and love have gained a big place in my heart.

  • Dragonboat

    April 4, 2015 in Hong Kong ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

I joined the dragonboat team right after my first training with them in Sai Kung. I was immediately passionate about the energy in this sport - it is recognizable in the coaches, the team members, and soon it also took over me! I loved this sport, the team, and the fighting spirit. We were a really strong girl's team, holding together like a family. Also the guy's team was great! I think every single member was so important, so special, and that is really something taking into account the huge size of our dragon boat team!!!

Our training was mostly on the Shek Mun River, close to Fo Tan station. We trained Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays on the water, and had an amazing competition against the other dragon boat teams from different universities... it was crazy, intense, and so much fun!!!

I will always remember this experience.
