Headed to St.Johns today. Started out at the 0 km marker of the Trans Canada Highway. We strolled around town taking in all the beautiful murals and sights of the "jelly bean" homes. Painted bright colours originally to mark the shore for the sailors, now they are maintained to brighten the city streets. Cape Spear is home to the oldest still standing lighthouse in Newfoundland, it's also still functioning. The views from the coast here are spectacular. Then to Signal Hill. Together these were the first line of defense guarding the entry to the Harbour of St.Johns. WW2 canons and an extensive bunker system are still in place at Cape Spear. We also hit the furthest east point of Canada today.Read more
