    Hitting the Road

    May 14, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Heading east to visit Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Loaded up the car, minimal plans and itinerary. Fun, laid back and different type of holiday, we'll see what we see 🤗 Crossing the bridge at Quebec City marks the furthest east we've ever driven. First night in Fredericton, New Brunswick.Read more

  • Through New Brunswick to Nova Scotia

    May 15, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Perfectly easy traveling day. Into Nova Scotia, stopped at a nice bakery and loved our first sound of the maritime accent. Red clay highways, and seeing the ocean❣️Overnight in Sydney on the north easterly tip of the province. A maritime cruise port, with a pretty boardwalk, breezy but thankfully not cold. Let the seafood feasting begin 😋Read more

  • Ferry to Newfoundland

    May 16, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 9 °C

We were early to line up to board the ferry this morning. What a nice way to travel. It's just like a mini cruise. Almost 7 hours onboard, relaxing. A blink of a tour through Port aux Basque where we arrived into Newfoundland. You definitely know your in a coastal town.Read more

  • North West Coast

    May 17, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

Lobster Cove Head and Viking Coastal Trail to Rocky Harbour. We had a great morning drive with lots of laughs and a moose crossing! We found a nice 10k hike to a beautiful waterfall ( and a "not" moose enclosure 😂) finished with some seafood at "Earls" for dinner. This wildflower cabin is beyond cute too!Read more

  • Beautiful Cold Day

    May 18, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 1 °C

Onto the very north coast of Twilingate. Crossing the causeway we were excited to stop to see what we thought were the icebergs 🤗 Boarding the boat to go out onto the bay we could see the beautiful massive bergs out in the distance. They were stunning, and braving the cold was worth it. We were entertained on the return to shore with some very fun music. Onto Gander for the night.Read more

  • Terra Nova NP and onto Brigus

    May 19, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Found a beautiful hike this morning in the Terra Nova National Park. Then we drove onto the East Avalon Peninsula to our new home for the week in Brigus. A beautiful tiny town in Conception Bay that will be a jumping off point for more exploring ( if we can tear ourselves away from the beautiful house)Read more

  • Hiking to the windiest spot on earth!

    May 20, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌬 6 °C

What a challenging hike this morning to the well known Brigus light house. Absolutely the windiest place we've ever stood and felt like we could be blown right away! The views made it very worthwhile. Relaxing in the house and walking to The Riseover for dinner makes for a great rest of the day.Read more

  • St.Johns

    May 21, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Headed to St.Johns today. Started out at the 0 km marker of the Trans Canada Highway. We strolled around town taking in all the beautiful murals and sights of the "jelly bean" homes. Painted bright colours originally to mark the shore for the sailors, now they are maintained to brighten the city streets. Cape Spear is home to the oldest still standing lighthouse in Newfoundland, it's also still functioning. The views from the coast here are spectacular. Then to Signal Hill. Together these were the first line of defense guarding the entry to the Harbour of St.Johns. WW2 canons and an extensive bunker system are still in place at Cape Spear. We also hit the furthest east point of Canada today.Read more

  • Coastal Drive and a Couple Birds

    May 22, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

A foggy rainy day, and we hit the coast for a drive to St.Mary's Ecological Reserve. An astounding sight of colonies of nesting birds on the cliffs of the coast. It was a beautiful walk out to the edge, and the sound of so many birds together was really something else!Read more

  • Rainy Day to Relax

    May 23, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 2 °C

On this cold rainy day, all we wanted to do was curl up and relax in the cozy tv room. Our neighbour brought us a feast of crab legs. We need to work on our "cracking" skills though 😝

  • Baccalieu Trail to Grates Cove

    May 24, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

The sun was out today and a beautiful drive on the Baccalieu Trail through Conception Bay. Harbour Grace, the home of the starting point for Emilia Earhart's first transatlantic flight. So many stunning views along the way to the tip of Grates Cove. We're covering a lot of coastline here 🌊 and loving the beauty and ease of travelling on these Canadian roads. We've decided we're good "road tripping" partners ❣️Read more

  • Skerwink Trail and Puffins

    May 25, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

Onto the Bonavista Peninsula today. We loved the Skerwink Trail and it's stunning cliff views. A little fox pup popped out of his den right on the trail, what a fun surprise.
We found the Puffins in Elliston, cutest little odd birds.
Mother Nature does some incredible things.

  • The Full Newfoundland Effect

    May 26, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 5 °C

The very tip of Bonavista was the most blustery place we've seen. The rain was spitting, the winds howling and temp's down to 5 degrees. It's home to the last lighthouse though that we could tour inside and learn about the lifelong career of a Lighthouse keeper and their family. So we had to go, and very glad we did. We stopped to see the Dungeon rocks, and their cavelike cutouts carved out over thousands of years. Finished off the day with a beautiful dinner at the Artisan Inn ( funniest dinner reservation ever made). By the end of the day, the weather has cleared and see how calm the rodney is on the lake.Read more

  • Back to Gros Morne NP

    May 27, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 4 °C

Travel day back to the west side. Finally found a kitchen party!! So much fun with music, stories and playing instruments! Lawrence made it to the dance floor too!

  • Fjord of Western Brook Pond

    May 28, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

It was a 3k walk to reach the dock, deep inside this vast area of the Long Range Mountains. Then onboard to travel right into the fjord to see beautiful waterfalls and amazing rock walls towering over us at 2200 ft. What a beautiful spot to feel so tiny in this amazing park. It's hard to capture how we are right inside this formation!Read more

  • Dat d'er she's a doozy!

    May 29, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌬 2 °C

The Lookout! A steady climb for a 2200 elevation & 6km return. What a site at the top. A stunning panoramic view of Bonne Bay and the Tablelands and Gros Morne Mountain. Of course much easier and quicker to come down. We drove the Tablelands afterwards. 400 million years in the making, this inner mantle, the remnants of the original continent Pangea 😮 Poor "Earls"... the worst pizza and the worst apple pie! 🤣 How's that possible in Smallville, Nowhere!?Read more

  • Last day on The Rock

    May 30, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 7 °C

A sunny calm day for our drive back to the West Point and one more walk on the rock. Newfoundland has been so relaxing and way more scenic & interesting than we expected. We will come back one day.

    May 31, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Our first Canadian morning at Tim's! 🇨🇦 A smooth ferry ride back to Nova Scotia. It was interesting to feel we knew we were back on "the mainland"
Cheti camp is a tiny coastal town, and we picked a great spot! Arrived just in time for sunset.Read more

  • Helenes in Halifax

    June 3, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

A great lobster feast with Helene and Al was a great intro to Halifax. We were dealt a very rainy day to see the Halifax Harbour, but we grabbed our umbrellas and made the best of it. We know we will have to come back because it looks like a great place in warm weather.Read more

  • Peggys Cove

    June 4, 2023 in Canada ⋅ 🌧 9 °C

The rain held out long enough for a visit to Peggy's Cove. What a beautiful place. A stop at the Swiss Air 111 memorial, and onto Lunenburg. Our haunted walk was rained out, so...one more pub!! 🤪

  • Bay of Fundy

    June 5, 2023 in Canada ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

A very early morning start to reach the last stop, The Bay of Fundy. What an interesting site, we walked on the ocean floor amongst the Hopewell rocks. The short low tide window today was 9-11:30am. We'll be back another time to see the high tide. Landed at a fun casino tonight on route for home.Read more
