Athens airport layover

Ugly layover … we’ve gone thru some poorly run airports on this trip, but Athens is one of the worst if not the worst we’ve experienced so far. (Amsterdam being a VERY close second). This is our second time thru Athens and both times it was not good.

The departure screens weren’t correct or updated (both times) so who knows if you’re at the right gate … sort of a hide n seek situation. (which is especially fun and a challenge when you don’t speak Greek!). And this time after a delay, we finally boarded the flight, pulled away and went 50 ft to be told there were mechanical issues and we were returning for further investigation. 🥺

After the “engineering team” boarded they said the problem was bigger than they anticipated, we would need a new plane and disembarked us. 🙁 This is our 17th flight, so I guess I should just be happy that the prior 16 went off with very few glitches.

The kicker was after two hours they put us back on the exact same airplane! There were distinct “markers” we could identify in our seats so positive it was the same plane. So … hoping the problem wasn’t that big of deal as we head back up into the sky. 😳😧😬 🤞Read more
