We were up early this morning … 4:00 am. Our hotel in Crete was a couple hours from the airport so we had to take a two hour bus ride first thing. I watched the sunrise over the Aegean Sea as we drove. ❤️

Our first flight went great to Athens - and then it went south from there as my earlier post said. We eventually got on our plane and made it to Istanbul but it wasn’t without some concerns. Maybe our imagination but the plane just didn’t sound and act “right”. But we made it so … all is good.

One thing I underestimated about this trip was travel within the cities. Like here in Istanbul - the airport is a good hour away from the city, and it’s a city that doesn’t have a great mass transit system. So it is tough. We eventually found our way on another bus, and then a taxi once we got closer to the city.

Traffic here is crazy, as well as the drivers!! It’s pretty nuts. There doesn’t seem to be too many rules being followed by anyone. The taxi ride was hairy.

Our hostel is pretty nice. A Turkish woman who works at the hostel made us a homemade dinner tonight (for $4 each), and we ate it on the terrace overlooking the river, with Denise the golden retriever at our side. Pretty nice way to finish the evening.
