  • Middlesmoor

    October 12, 2021 in England ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Described as moderate and 14.5 miles but actually strenuous in places and over 16 miles. Damp from lunchtime onwards (low cloud).

Huge numbers of pheasant - you could bag a few shooting with your eyes closed.

Long distance views down the valley from our accommodation in Middlesmoor.

  • Back to Pateley Bridge

    October 13, 2021 in England ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Nice long descent from Middlesmoor to Pateley Bridge CIA How Stean gorge and the pretty village of Ramsgill.

Weather varies between cool and breezy and still and warm. Dry, which is the main thing.

On this four day walk there are very few places of refreshment or shops to buy picnic ingredients! So we adjusted our route to allow a proper
    lunch break in Pateley Bridge.

Afternoon walk out to Providence lead mine (remains). About 15 miles today.

  • Ripley

    October 14, 2021 in England ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

A stiff climb to start the morning but affording expansive views over Nidderdale. Lunch at a tea room in Summerbridge.

Nidderdale has been nicknamed by us Area of Outstanding Lack of Cafes.

Long afternoon bringing our daily mileage walked to 15 miles.

Slumming it at the Boars Head in Ripley tonight.

  • Ripley to Pateley Bridge

    October 15, 2021 in England ⋅ ⛅ 6 °C

Boar's Head, Ripley - good food, let down by a few details. Most staff very attentive and wanting to please, but a poor receptionist!

Cool and crisp - best weather for walking.

We planned our own return journey using the bits of the Nidderdale Way that we wanted, but cutting it slightly shorter (<12 miles).

    Picnic lunch at Brimham Rocks.
