We ended our Uyuni tour by crossing over the border to Chile, to the town of San Pedro de Atacama. We were grubby & dusty having not been able to shower for 3 days. Stinky. SPA is a sprawling town, mostly catering for tourists, of adobe houses, dusty streets and lots and lots of tour agencies, artisan shops selling local textiles (made in China) & dogs, lots of dogs. We bumped into a friend Gill, who we last saw on the Torres del Paine trek in Patagonia 6 weeks ago! Clare went horse riding with her the next day to Valle de la Muerte (Death Valley). Unrfortunately Lisa was poorly with a tummy bug for the next two days so couldn't do very much. But we did manage the classic Atacama desert tour of the Valle de la Luna and watched the sunset. Clare did a nighttime star gazing tour. We both managed the onerous task of having a spa day with massage & yoga.Read more

TravelerHi Sheila. I've been a bit poorly again today - nauseous - but hoping that's my lot. I'm such a delicate flower these days. To get that photo we were sitting (alone) on another promontory that was lower down but also overhanging the valley. We were looking up at a bunch of other tourists - it was an intimate gathering (not) of 200 people to watch the sunset.
