  • Orzola

    10 Nisan 2025, Ispanya ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

I took the bus from Arrecife to Orzola (the northernmost town on Lanzarote).

Before that, I searched four supermarkets and a gas station for methylated spirits – I need this for cooking – and it took a long time until I finally found it…

Arriving in Orzola, a light rain shower came up and I discovered that the 10.000 mm water column of my La Sportiva jacket didn't quite live up to its promise… This could be exciting in the coming weeks… 🤔

  • GR131 day2: Haria-Penas del Chache

    13 Nisan 2025, Ispanya ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

    PART 2 of the 2nd day GR131:
After a good break with Tapas in Haria i head on again up to the mountain...
Along a dried-up riverbed...back up to the viewpoint 'Mirador de Famara'....Famara, a famous surfing beach where wind and high waves are always raging... from above, you can even see a few surfers...and it's really windy! Checked out various caves...The 'cueva de las Cabras'...requires a bit of climbing (only for those with a head for heights)...and a little further on, 'natural caves', which, as the name suggests, were formed by nature...beautiful rock formations, definitely worth seeing. By now, it's getting late, and I head back to an abandoned cottage where I'll stay for the night...Rain and wind will rage all night, and I'm glad I found somewhere sheltered...see you tomorrow.Okumaya devam et

    15 Nisan 2025, Ispanya ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

    Day4 GR131 Lanzarote: Part1
Spent the night on the terrace of an allotment garden...packed my things extra early...and just as I was about to leave, the owner drove up...my heart sank...but he was really nice...tutto ok..niete problemas...and he laughed and showed me the thumb up...so friendly and nice...I am really grateful.

    'Las Grietas' ...
These small canyons have been carved into the Montaña Blanca by water over the years. There are three crevasses in total, just a few meters apart, each one more spectacular than the last! They resemble a miniature version of the canyons of Arizona and Utah.

    Day4 GR131 Lanzarote: Part 2
    LA GERIA
A unique volcanic landscape How can an island as dry as Lanzarote produce such good white and sweet wines? The answer is "Geria," which means a conical depression in several meters of deep, multi-layered volcanic gravel. The vines are planted in the center of this depression, protected from the wind by a small, crescent-shaped wall. The vines, planted in perfect rows, create a beautiful panorama in shades of green, ochre, and black that is unparalleled anywhere in the world. This landscape has certainly contributed to the island of Lanzarote being declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO.Okumaya devam et

  • GR131 day5: Yaiza-playa Papagayo

    17 Nisan 2025, Ispanya ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

After a hearty breakfast I set off on the last leg to Playa Blanca + an additional tour to the Papagayo beaches.

'Playa Papagayo'...at the southeastern tip of Lanzarote...not actually part of the GR131, but definitely worth a visit! The beach stretches across several bays, both large and small. The nudist beach wasn't too crowded, making it a good spot for a refreshing dip. The beach with a bar high above had impressive turquoise water, but unfortunately it was far too crowded... So I decided I absolutely had to stay here to see the beach empty at sunrise... In the afternoon, I left my backpack at the campsite reception and walked all over in search of a suitable place to sleep... only with a sleeping bag, no tent, because of the wind... The last video shows the small alcove; I spent the night here, slightly elevated, listening to the sound of the sea... Tomorrow I'll tell you how the night went....Okumaya devam et

  • GR131 day8: Corralejo-El Cotillo

    20 Nisan 2025, Ispanya ⋅ 🌬 21 °C

So many impressions today...changing landscapes and temperatures, and a day full of surprises... Started in Corralejo...towards the chain of volcanoes that stretches to Lajares...I passed the Bayuyo volcano, and here I saw my first chipmunks...shortly after, I met Sören from Karlsruhe, who had hiked Fuerteventura from south to north and gave me a few tips... I still couldn't pass the 'Calderon Hondo' volcano...it literally drew me in...I left my backpack at the bottom...nobody carries something that heavy 😄 ...it was worth it, and the climb was only short. Then I stopped in Lajares to charge my phone and take a break...continued through the desert, where the wind was blowing so hard that I couldn't walk without a shelter...luckily, the wind was coming from behind and gave me a little push... My goal was an outdoor shelter on the mountain...closed on three sides...should be fine, I thought...no way...the wind was still too strong inside that I simply couldn't set up my tent... So I had to keep looking for something else...by now it was already 6:40 p.m....It took me about an hour to get to El Cotillo...when I got there, I experienced a beautiful sunset, but I couldn't really enjoy it because I had to find a place to sleep🤔 There's a steep wall along the beach, a local told me a short time before...that I would be protected there... But the wind was still blowing hard...finally, I found one of the typical round stone wall structures that serve as a windbreak, somewhat secluded in the third or fourth bay.Relieved and tired, I made my sleeping spot. ready...good night!Okumaya devam et

  • GR131 day9: El Cotillo south along coast

    21 Nisan 2025, Ispanya ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

GR131 - Stage 2 Fuerteventura Crossing (April 21, 2025) Cowboy camping on the beach last night worked out well...I slept well for the first time under a beautiful starry sky. In the morning, I headed back to El Cotillo (about 3 km) because I needed to buy to eat and drink for the next two stages, as there's nothing along the way. I had breakfast at the harbor with Danish pastries and a short time later, some toast so I wouldn't have to stop again because I was so hungry.
The stage ran entirely along the western cliffs, and as I headed south, I always had the volcanoes and the desert-like steppe to my left...and the roaring sea to my right. Few surfers tried out today because the waves were simply too high. Even locals say the weather is unusual; it's usually not this windy and it's warmer at this time of year. Around 6:50 p.m., I passed an original water fountain with a round stone wall in front of it...I briefly considered whether I should continue on to the next beach and spend the night like the night before...that would take another 30-40 minutes...No, I decide to stay here and build the wall a little higher and also close off the entrance with stones... Ah, I'm really proud of my little wall 😃
    Good night..
