• Oil Pump Installed, Power Head Installed

    October 21 in the United States ☀️ 72 °F

Yesterday I got the last of my parts. I installed the new seal into the oil pump, then installed the oil pump. This morning I backed the boat up to my hoist tree and got the power head hung on the come along winch. I had planned to just back the boat then under the power head with the pickup, but I couldn't raise the power head high enough. So I unhooked from the pickup, and then used my little tractor to raise the boat trailer tongue high enough, that would lower the back of the boat and allow me to back under the power head. Once I got the boat centered where it needed to be, I started lowering the power head into the bottom pan on top of the mid section. To insure I got it on perfectly positioned, once it was about an inch above the mid section surface, I used a couple of long dowels placed up through two of the bolt holes, into the power head threads, Taped the dowels in place to keep them from falling down, and then lowered the power head the rest of the way. Worked perfect. Removed the dowels and put two bolts in just to make sure the power head stayed in place while I moved the boat over to the driveway, where I finished installing all the bolts. Got all the wires, cables and hoses hooked back up. Then installed the lower unit extension back on to the mid section, followed by the lower unit. Put oil in the engine, double checked everything, hooked up the water muffs, and turned the key. Started right up, and ran nice. Today was a nice fall day, in the 70's. Tomorrow is suppose to be the same. I'll head out to Lake Mendota tomorrow to run the boat and make sure everything works on the water. :-)Read more
