Day 7-Ponte de Lima to Rubiaes

We are averaging 12 miles of walking each days, so this was an average day, except we had 1,000’ of climbing over a mountain. We decided to start early at 6:00 am, in the dark, but were treated to a blue and full moon over the medieval bridge. The 3 mile “slog” up the mountain was difficult, but we were rewarded with a beautiful panorama. After the climb most of the pilgrims stopped by one of the few restaurants of the day. The cold cider and grilled chicken was fabulous. We talked to Ricardo, from Portugal. He volunteered with the Pope’s visit to Portugal a month earlier and had many stories to relate. He even sent me his best picture of the pope. We have also been running into a whole gaggle of Brazilian pilgrims each day. Tonight, our hostel is a beautiful stone home that sleeps only 7 pilgrims.Read more
