Galloping Gertie, Tacoma, WA

This is also known as the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. In 1940, less than a year after its opening, twisted violently on a windy day and collapsed. The rebuilt bridge runs from Tacoma over to Gig Harbor. There is a separate bridge that comes back over to Tacoma. The bridge back is a toll bridge and when we crossed it was $6 for our car. You can find video of the collapse on Utube.
