  • Thunder Hole

    28 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

So we went to Thunder Hole, but we didn't realize until we got down that we took the wrong trail. Poor Nana, that was hard on her knees, but she had an awesome son and he helped her back up.

Talon found this bird and came and got me phone so he could take a picture.

We were at Thunder Hole at the wrong time, we showed up just after low tide which meant that the thunder sound didn't happen but once while we were there.

  • West Quoddy Lighthouse

    29 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌧 61 °F

The most eastern point in the USA! We were supposed to be there at sunrise, but decided to sleep in seeing as there wasn't going to be much of a sunrise... It was still neat. If you'll notice that last pic, you can see that this lighthouse is still in use.Baca lagi

  • West Quoddy Hike

    29 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌧 61 °F

After checking out the lighthouse, we hiked. Shocking right? It was crazy how squishy the ground was. In fact, if you got off the trail, you would sink, just ask Doug and Nathanael. Nana went with us part of the way with Doug's help but then decided to turn around.Baca lagi

  • Sea Glass Hunting in the Rain!

    29 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ 🌧 61 °F

The best rated beach for hunting sea glass is Mowry Beach in Lubec, ME. I really wanted to go but as you can see, it was raining and cold. We still went and stayed for about an hour. We were also there at high tide so it was not a successful adventure, but it was still an adventure we won't forget!

Lighthouse or bouy? We couldn't decide...

  • Bangor

    29 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☁️ 70 °F

Dysart's Truckstop and Paul Bunyon in Bangor (b an gor) not (bane gor).

In my research on Maine, Dysart's kept coming up as a great place to eat, then I laughed so hard at the blooper commercial on YouTube that I wanted to check this place out.

Maine is such a logging state that we wanted to visit the 31 foot Paul Bunyon statue. Of course, we listened to the story after the visit.

  • Bar Island Hike

    29 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

Back to Mount Desert to check out Bar Harbor. Everyone sorta split and decided to meet up for blueberry pie and coffee at around 9pm. Funny thing was, that we went to hike to Bar Island and there was Eric & Rachel, Dad & Mom and Nana. Great minds and all that... As we were walking across the bar, we talked to someone in their van who told us that in 15 minutes the water would be over the bar. We thought, "No way!" But Google said he was right. I called Mom, as they had started walking around the island, and they hoofed it back. From the time we were told at 6:20pm to the time when water was over the bar at 6:45pm, we watched people hurry back to Bar Harbor. Google said it's one of the locals favorite things, watching people get stranded on Bar Island. Thankful God allowed someone to warn us, we had no clue!Baca lagi

  • Bar Harbor

    29 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 66 °F

We walked around Bar Harbor, browsing, shopping, and enjoying the evening.

As we walked by the dog and its owner, the dog decided to take a refresher. It just plopped down into the water and we laughed at the owner's expression as that dog was NOT moving!

We met up and decided to buy a whole blueberry pie & ice cream from West Street Cafe and take it back to the hotel to enjoy with coffee. Man that was great pie! The crust was delicious.

  • Blue Hill Bridge

    30 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 68 °F

This bridge was built in 1926. It is one of the few rainbow/arch bridges in the state. As of next year it will no longer be. MaineDOT has decided it would be more cost effective to replace the bridge. We talked to a local, he said he was mixed because he was sad to see it go, but he wouldn't miss worrying about all the people who like to climb to the top of the arch and jump.Baca lagi

  • Blue Hill Reversing Falls

    30 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 70 °F

The Bay of Fundy, located between the eastern point of Maine and Canada, can have a 20-40' difference between high and low tide. This causes a phenomenon called 'reversing falls'. Maine is one of the few places to get to see this. In Blue Hill, a 12' difference causes the ocean to flow backwards against the current into Salt Pond at high tide. We stayed about an hour. Of course the guys had a blast skipping rocks. In the last picture you can see the river current in the ocean.Baca lagi

  • Penobscot Narrows Bridge

    30 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 72 °F

We left Blue Hill and drive to Penonscot to look at one of the coolest Bridges in Maine. After lunch we went up into the observatory that is one of the towers of the bridge. If you looked across the river to the town of Bucksport, it looked like we were the same height as Silver Lake.

    Where's Weston???? Rachel doesn't know.

There were these big rocks along the walk ways that Talon in all his long leggedness HAD to try to jump.

  • Fort Knox

    30 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

Fort Knox up next. And no it's not the one with all the money! It actually never got completed enough to be an active fort, hence the ability to have two with the same name. We took a short tour and explored. Those cannons were giant! In fact, even though it never got completed they have shot the cannons in celebration. Those cannons were so loud that if you forgot to open your windows in Bucksport, then you had to replace them. That happened twice and now the town has decided to not do it again!Baca lagi

  • Barred Island Preserve Hike

    30 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

From Deer Isle you can hike to Barred Island, IF you time the tides right. You have about a 3 hour window to do this hike. It was one of the prettiest hikes I've ever done. The miss made it look like there was green carpet everywhere. Now those tree roots were cool looking at the beginning, not a friend by the end...Tresia decided against the hike, a wise decision.Baca lagi

  • Barred Island

    30 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

Barred Island itself was also pretty. We walked all the way around in about 15 minutes. We hunted for sea glass, and found these little fish that everyone had fun tryin to chase down and catch, slippery little suckers! The boys also found them some stray bouys. They were washed up and stuck in the rocks.Baca lagi

  • Camden, ME

    31 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

We drove through this little seaside town and it was so cool that I asked Doug to drop me off and drive around the block so I could take a few pictures. They even had a dog show in the park.

There were a lot of neat seaside towns. Unfortunately stopping at all of them was not possible, but this one was one of my favorites.Baca lagi

  • Owls Head Museum

    31 Ogos 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 72 °F

After the show was over we went into the museum to look around. Some interesting info learned:

The bikes we see today came out and we're called safety bikes because the big front wheel with the little back wheeled bikes were so dangerous.

The wooden car in the pictures was called a beach wagon and were the first Suburbans.

A rotary engine is when the propeller starts still and there engine rotates around the propeller.

A Gypsy carriage was started when a couple became engaged. They took 16 months to build and were the original campers.

We also built Lego cars to race, Weston's car beat all of ours.

Everyone else was waiting on us in the theatre. All in all, an enjoyable day.

  • Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

    1 September 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

Permaquid Lighthouse made the list to visit because of the rocks it was built on. I saw a picture online and knew that everyone would enjoy them, and we did. This lighthouse was also the only one we were able to go up in.

Upon arriving, we noticed a funky looking car. On inspection and after talking to it's owner's we learned that it is a Vanderhall, a three-wheeled Venice roadster.

At one point, Doug and I were talking on the rocks and I looked over, there was Eric and Rachel. I'm not sure who all too a moment to take in the beauty but we all had a little time to just be, here.

With over 65 lighthouses, 55 if which are still active, you really get a feel of the importance of them. Maine is often called the Lighthouse State.

I really wanted to go in and see this, but it was a Sunday before Labor Day. They weren't open either day...someone messed up on the planning...

DeLorme Mapmakers built this in 1998 and it is the world's largest rotating globe at 41' diameter.

A girls night! A guys night!

Us girls went into Portland, ME while Tresia chilled at the hotel. We shopped, hunted down some blueberry pie, coffee and gelato, and enjoyed the harbor. We kinda got lost in a kitchen store. *What do you do when it's your anniversary and your husband runs off with the guys? Hmm, date yourself! (or the awesome in laws!!!!😘) We had fun all the way around.

The guys went and played frisbee golf. It was guys night so I have no pictures to show for it!!!

  • Portland Head Lighthouse

    2 September 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

We headed to the Portland Head Lighthouse. We enjoyed our first look, but of course as soon as Talon could he was finding a way down. Most of us followed and spent a good hour playing on the rocks. I also looked out at the rocks and thought once again about how important these lighthouses are.Baca lagi

  • Portland Head Lighthouse

    2 September 2019, Amerika Syarikat ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

After checking around the top and following Talon to the bottom, we walked among the rocks. It was so amazing how much like wood that the granite looked. Sometimes you had to pick it up to tell the difference. Then all the pyrite in it, you had to busy it open. We eventually made our way to the top again before going to check out the rest of the park.

*If you look close at the last picture, you can see another lighthouse in the background. Supposedly you can see 4 lighthouses from this one, buuutt, I forgot to check...
