    Port Gregory

    September 9, 2017 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We came here thinking we might be able to do some kayaking inside the semi circular reef, however it was seriously windy and cold and not particularly inviting for any kind of water activities. No free camping around here, so we stayed in the Caravan Park for two nights.
From the jetty we watched a couple of cray boats come in and unload their catch, one had three crates and the other had two. Apparently they have just about reached their quota for the season so don't need to go out each day.
The area is known for its Pink Lake which gets its colour from the blooms of a microscopic algae. The algae is cultivated and harvested in the Hutt Lagoon and the various carotenoids (the pink producing bits) are sold worldwide for use in dietary supplements.
