    White Oak Lake State Park

    June 3, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 88 °F

So on my way to the frozen north. It was 95 when I arrived here and I was prepared with several fans to try and survive the night. Well the temperature started to drop around 9pm and by 10pm the fans were off and the blanket was dug out. Great night and a really nice park.Read more

  • Trails of Tears State Park

    June 4, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 72 °F

I am camping next to the Mighty Mississippi it is really neat watching the huge barges go by. I have been told the paddlewheel boats go by and maybe I will be lucky enough to see one. Today the weather is beautiful 85 was the high and already below 70 before nightfall. May not be a restful night since there is a train crossing within sight but we will see. Great drive through the rolling hills of Arkansas. Tomorrow I might make Illinois but might also do some sight seeing here. This park is very hilly and has some fantastic overlooks and cliffsRead more

  • Betsy's place

    June 7, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

    I might stay here forever!!!

Wine and a view more tomorrow
So Bonnie, the dog, and I put in 5 miles of walking today. Saw Sandhill cranes, white pelicans and a mess of Red Winged Blackbirds. Tomorrow we go on a bike ride, 20 miles of training for Betsy and 1 1/2 mile ride for me to the local coffee spot. Really enjoying the views and the weather. We did have a bit of rain today so did not get out the kayaks yet but that will be soon.Read more

  • Another beautiful day.

    June 11, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

So today was working in the yard, kayaking and soaking up the sun. It was wonderful. What do you think of my marine treasure? Found about 10 feet of 3 inch coiled rope floating in the cove. Almost capsized bringing it in. Then today found 3 boat bumpers and can't wait to see what I find tomorrow. Poor Betsy is not sure about the treasures.Read more

    June 13, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

So dropped Betsy off at Green Bay airport so she can fly to another island, Hawaii. I took the opportunity to have breakfast/lunch at the Belgian Delight restaurant. Their stuffed french toast was awesome. Then off to the Island Cider tasting room and then onto the ferry to return to the island. I now am responsible for the dogs and house all by myself. What a luxury. the Apple/ginger cider is fantastic. The turtle was our guest this morning. Had a nice thunderstorm last night so I think the turtle decided to hang out with us until it cleared.Read more

  • Still here

    June 14, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

so did a 11.5 mile bike around the island. Which lead to me climbing the fire tower, visiting the historic dairy which is really a lavender farm, and checking out the bars on Main street. It was a good day.

Plus of course I walked the dogs a couple of times, and pulled weeds in the flower beds in hopes of earning my keep and maybe an invite back.

  • exploring the island

    June 19, 2018 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 57 °F

So it was time to get out the motorcycle and explore some of the far reaches of the island. Up at the northern end I found Little Lake with irises in bloom, a really cute little museum or collection of odds and ends, and a Norwegian church. Then I took the dogs for a walk and they found a turtle it was extremely frightening, barely phased the turtle
The last thing I did today was go to a "fish Boil" which turns out to be a crawfish boil but with less mess, Same red potatoes, whole boiled onions instead of corn and filets of whitefish. No shells and served at a table. Not sure which came first crawfish boils or fish boils .

  • Center of Arkansas

    June 28, 2018 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 97 °F

So as you can tell I left the island and am heading home. Last night I stopped in a cute place in Oglesby, IL, The front yard of a rural couple that had added water, electric and sewer connection, there were lightening bugs and total silence after the old guy told me about EVERY THING in the area and how to find the road to continue on in the morning. I slept like a log , it was nice and cool.
Well not the same this evening so decided to push as far as I felt comfortable to go and then check into a motel. Now by luck it has a plaque in the lobby designating it as the center of Arkansas. What a find.
NO photos, too hot I melted. It is 102 and 6pm I might head back north tomorrow.
Actually heading home to a house that is maybe under contract and the Forest Cove 50th 4th of July Barbecue. What excitement.
