    Goodbye Maui, Hello Honolulu

    September 16 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

It's finally arrived - our last day before we head to our favourite destination of all.
Another day doing very little before we take the short flight to Honolulu for the night. Just a little sight seeing.

    Another day in Maui

    September 15 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Another quiet day that started with the regular check for turtles at out front door and then a couple of hours at "our" beach.
Then back home for some more post midday planning and preparation (otherwise known as an afternoon nap).
We ended the day with a few more nibblies, a cold beer and a beautiful sunset.Read more

    A Day in Maui

    September 14 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

After a hot night (no air conditioning but a little breeze) we left for a short drive to the beach. Great spot just down the road.
Stayed for an hour or so and then took the scenic drive home - it took two hours! A very, very narrow mountain road.

    Goodbye San Francisco, Hello Hawaii

    September 13 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 21 °C

Caught a morning flight to the island of Maui where we plan to have 3 days of rest.
Checked in to our beachside retreat and that's about enough for the day!

  • Day25

Off to Alcatraz - or not!

    September 12 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Thursday morning and today is Alcatraz day. We caught the bus to Pier 33 and found the only company that tours the island. No tickets until Monday!
Time to adjust the itinerary and instead we took a cruise around the bay that included a close look at Alcatraz (from the boat) and a ride under the Golden Gate.
Saw some fishermen with their catch for the day and hundreds of seals.
A quick tour of City Hall and we were done for the day.

    San Francisco Giants baseball game

    September 11 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

It was interesting but I thought the fans would be more into the game.
The main attractions were food, beer, catching the fly balls, watching yourself on TV and I nearly forgot - the baseball!
For the record the Giants beat the Pirates 5-4. The Pirates scored 4 home runs in the 8th innings to make it a close finish.
I really enjoyed it and that's another bucket list item ticked off.

    Driving to San Francisco

    September 10 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

A day spent driving from Mammoth Lakes to San Francisco.
We decided to take the Sonora Pass over the mountains. It was a different drive to Yosemite but equally as interesting. A road less travelled!
We reached just under 10,000 feet again (Kosciusko is 7,310 feet) .
A highlight was road works where 30 double bogey asphalt trucks were lined up.
Once over the mountains it was an easy drive through open farmlands until we reached outer San Francisco.
Stopped for a picnic lunch near an almond tree plantation.
Tickets for a major league baseball game tonight!

    Day exploring Yosemite National Park

    September 9 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 12 °C

Drove to Yosemite National Park and spent the day exploring.
It was quite beautiful and it would be absolutely incredible in the winter/snowy season.
We finished a full day with a very nice Mexican meal in the Mammoth Lakes village.
