We postponed this year’s adventure so we won’t melt down in the south. And then we postoned a few days more, because we were exhausted and took longer than expected to put together our luggage.

It's been 2 months since last trip we had with the motorcycle. Meanwhile our butts have to readapt with sitting multiple hours a day on the "comfy seat" of the old Transalp.

Kindness from strangers

Just 5 kilometers before the camping a massive rain started. We pulled over to put the rain coats on. We were taking shelter below the trees near their door, and a few moments later this kind old man comes and invites us in. Little by little the entire family comes out on the porch to sit with us - 2 generations and their dog, hiding from all the thunder. We chat about life, university options for their son and, of course, we are not allowed to leave without having at least a cup of coffee.
So much kindness, we were touched.

Lazy first morning. We took our time getting ready to leave. The very nice camping amenities also helped in making it more difficult to leave.

We also forgot our food in their fridge. Still a bit rusty.

The campground has tent spots, bungalows, bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and several outdoor activities - ping pong table, swings, sand toys, hammocks and a pool.

Short and sweet. Lovely walk and ride through these gorges.

It was too late to hike all the way up to Inelul Doamnei, but would definitely come back to do it.

I got lost looking for a bathroom. Getting to it was more of an art labyrinth than anything else.

Meanwhile, someone else had plenty of time to dry off and ventilate their feet.

Camping Starite Borove

This camping is an oasis in the middle of nowhere, next to nothing.

Surrounded by forest, it’s a beautiful place to pitch your tent or park your motorhome and relax. Clean bathroom, practical outdoor kitchen and very warm hosts.

During the night you could hear owls from the forest 🦉, crickets and insects 🐞. Above them all was the sound of two very competitve roosters 🐓. They sang to each other from very early on and were the main topic of all morning chats between the campers sleeping here.

In the morning we bought some eggs from the host and made a delicious breakfast. He also gifted us some home grown tomatoes.

Would definitely recommend this camping 🏕

Dried off and warmed up with a nice dinner.

The camping itself is close to the main road and quite noisy, but it will do. A warm shower and a place to pitch our tent was all we needed.

I love trees. It was a delight to walk the stairs up to this 1300 year old pine tree and take in its beauty.

“Its age is estimated at more than 1300 years, which makes it the oldest pine tree in the country and one of the oldest trees in the world. The approximate sizes of the tree are as follows: height 26m, diameter 2,48m, and circumference 7,80m.

In Bulgaria, Baykushev’s pine is the second oldest tree after the Granit’s oak in the village of Granit, Stara Zagora, which is 1650 years old.”

2h away from the camping is this hidden gem of a lake.
The path is easily trackable and worth the effort.

The clouds cleared up and ski put on a show of stars, even the Milky Way was easy to see.

The camping was free and basic. Squaring toilet and no running water.

Last year, during the Iceland trip, there were so many times when we wanted extra shelter besides the tent. When it is too sunny or a light rain it can make a huge difference, especially when you pack-unpack or cook.

We found this lightweight tarp (2 kg) and we'll give a try for a while.Read more

Iris Gold jewellery factory visit

Excited to see inside one if Greece’s top jewellery, we visited Iris Gold’s showroom and factory. You have to ask in order to be taken down to the factory, but the staff is very helpful.
And since I had lost an earring the day before, I got some new ones 🙏

Theologos Waterfall

Tucked in this charming village, this waterfall was the perfect place to escape the heat. Even without bathing, it’s a beautiful place to see.
The waterfall has 3 layers, and the upper one is close to the walking path, so very crowded - expect lots of people. The lower levels are not as accessible, so nicer to explore. Bring supportive shoes/hiking boots.
For those brave enough to face the freezing water, it’s a good place for a quick swim.Read more

First of all, we parked way too far by picking the first parking lot. So, we had to hike both up and down in the heat. Don’t be fooled by the trees, that was just 10% oh the road, the rest was completely out in the sun.

When we got there it was full of people and the water was not as clear as in the photos. The place is beautiful, but we our expectations were too high, based on our research. We decided not to swim and get salty here.

In Rovaniemi (Finland) - the Santa Clause home, I met George who was during a similar trip and we decided to travel together for a while.
