    Boom! Writing this note, the Johns Hopkins Glacier calves a largish piece, crashing into the bay (technically a fjord). 33 stories tall, jagged peaks of ice, the Glacier Bay National Park receives almost all of its visitors via cruise ship. The Johns Hopkins Glacier is normally closed, only opening September 1 to visitors, because of fragile environment and breeding grounds for sea lions.

    It is a glorious park, lined with Glaciers but also sea lions, bears, and sea otters. There was a small 4 person Zodiac boat, perhaps National Park Service, navigating amongst chunks of ice in the bay.
