Started our holiday with a 3am morning to the airport, before arriving in Cairns at 9am.
We spent the day exploring the hood of cairns.
Our first stop was a lively cafe - music, lots of people, great food, lots of dogs and a great front seat view of the ocean and mountains!

The Cairns Aquarium was our evening destination, after a tour through the aquarium learning about all the marine wildlife in northern Queensland, we finished our first day with a fine dine experience at Dundees Restaurant inside the aquarium.Lue lisää

Great Barrier Reef

An absolute stunner of a day spent at the Great Barrier Reef!
Up and out to our tour bus this morning which drove us to our river cruise - we got off at Frankland Island and started our adventurous day🤿
First up; Semi Sub Tour - a glass floor boat in which we got a real taste of what’s on offer at the Great Barrier Reef. Turtles, coral and thousands of different fish.
Next, Snorkel Safari - a guided snorkel around the island reef’s in which we saw the real highlights
And lastly, after a free afternoon to explore; we had an island walk tour in which we saw some wildlife up close and personal.
A great day, a great experience! Highly recommend visiting the Great Barrier Reef!Lue lisää

Diving with Sharks + Stringrays

Wow! Definitely a top tier day to remember!
Today, we went diving with sharks and stingrays! Just a completely different world under the water, so peaceful, quiet, watching the marine life glide past you - it’s amazing!

Hartleys Crocadile Adventure

Today we began our Cairns to Cape York 4wd.
Our first stop, palm beach - a beautiful beach where we had bacon and egg burgers for brekkie.
Hartleys Crocadile Adventure park was next, pretty spectacular to see such huge crocs so close up!
A quick stop at Daintree Ice Creamery where we tried ice cream completely made of fruit on-site!
And lastly, Lions Den for our first night camp setup!Lue lisää

MatkaajaWould highly recommend stopping at Hartley. Some very informative talks and an excellent, up close encounter with lots of Australian wildlife.

Cook town to Coen Rivers bend

Day 2 of our 4wd - visited Cook Town for breakfast then continued the large hike up to the tip, lots of scenic views, lots of wildlife and lots of skin burning sun heat!
Musgrave is where we stopped for an early dinner before continuing north for another hour and setting up camp at Coen Rivers BendLue lisää

Matkaaja Laura Homestead, an interesting history. Built in the late 1800’s & was completely self sufficient.

Archers Crossing to Rainforest Retreat

Early morning today thanks to two birds calling out to each other however it worked to our advantage as we jumped on the road again.
Archers Crossing for breakfast and showers then off to Chili beach.
Getting the red dirt now as we get closer to the tip, and rougher roads!
Cracked open some coconuts at Chillis beach before setting up camp at Rainforest Retreat!Lue lisää

Morton Telegraph Station - Seisia

The famous Morton Telegraph Station was our first destination today, got to see the old original house, had some burgers for lunch then continued on to our campsite at Seisia!

Cape York! The Northernmost part of Aus!

After a night sleep out under the stars, we drove the last little stretch and arrived at Cape York!
Along the way we stopped at the famous Croc Tent and bought some fun souvenirs.

Waterfall hopping

We’re sad to leave Seisia as this is the beginning of heading back down south however we have so much to do over the next few days!
Today, waterfall swimming! We visited Elliot, twin & Fruit Bat falls which were amazingly beautiful. Water temp was perfect too! Incredible clear water!
We had a quick stop at Captain Billy’s beach before setting up camp at Bramwell Roadhouse for the night.Lue lisää

Weipa

Up and out early this morning on the road to Weipa. A quieter day spent looking through the cultural centre in Weipa, setting up camp, having a swim in the pool and relaxing before our sunset cruise spotting crocs!

Weipa - Mareeba

Today was a big travel day for us.
Packed and on the road before sun-up (7am), goodbye Weipa! On the road and arrived in Mareeba after the sun had set (6:30pm).

Along the way, we stopped to see a few look outs and some two thousand year old aboriginal paintings.

We concluded our last night camping with a competition of who can set up the tent faster - Dad, Mum, Amos and I vs the tour guide. 4 vs 1.

Back to Cairns

Our last day on our 4wd camping experience, Mareeba through to Cairns.
Along the way we visited Coffee Works, Golden Drop Winery and Mt Uncles distillery!
We definitely have a few more kgs to somehow hide in our luggage flying home.

Skyrail to the Butterfly Sanctuary

A great sleep-in was well deserved today!
We took the sky rail up to Kuranda and visited the Butterfly Sanctuary! So many colours on such beautiful butterfly’s!
After a walk around the markets, we caught the old train back down the mountain into cairns. What an experience!
