    Sydney - Singapore - Amsterdam

    After a slow wake-up this morning, we begun our holiday with a bus hire transport to the airport. The airport was relatively busy however we were not held up in too long of a queue. Headed to duty free, had some lunch and caught our first flight from Syd to Singapore Changi Airport. The flight went smoothly, food wasn’t bad and didn’t have any crying babies so overall, it was a 9/10 flight 👍.Read more

    Arriving in Amsterdam

    Arrived in Amsterdam early this morning. Caught a bus from the airport to our hotel and spent the day walking around the city on the canals. Saw some amazing old buildings, browsed in a few shops, visited a church, walked through Anne Frank’s house had Italian for lunch and then visited an Amsterdam Icebar. This was totally awesome and definitely worth the stop whilst in Amsterdam.
    All the buildings are huge, old and occasionally slanted. The city is filled with thousands of bikes, every step you take is dangerous as you may step out in front of a flying past bike. The streets are filled with tourists, Amsterdam truely has shown its highlights for our arrival.    Read more

    Art Fun

    Gee wiz, Where to begin with today’s adventure’s!!?
    With a gentle start to our morning, we had a canal tour in which we saw some secret gems around Amsterdam city. We then walked through the artist Rembrandt’s Rijn house and saw where his masterpiece’s were created. We then stumbled along Gassan Diamond’s factory in which we needed to take a quick tour! Who knew how many types of diamonds there are… not to mention the 4 C’s of each in-particular diamond (Carat, Cut, Clarity, Colour).
    We then visited Straat - an awesome warehouse filled with huge street art works. The work and detail these artists put into their pieces is incredible.
    We ended our afternoon with a total ‘Insta pic’ worthy experience. Wondr! A 15 room; walk through of colourful, fun and interactive props.

    Finally, our night finished with an Amsterdam famous experience.. Red Light District. Not much to say on this, as I’m sure you can all imagine this as it is 🫣    Read more

    Rijks Museum

    Today began with a rolling breakfast buffet before heading to Rijks Museum. This museum did not disappoint, if we had the time, we would have spent an entire day here adventuring the 80+ rooms filled with art! (Dad was definitely in his prime here).
    After a short drive out of the city and into De Ronde Venen, we jumped on some bikes and went to Flori World - as much fun as this was interacting with all the different rooms.. it was quite interesting reading about the floral in Amsterdam and how this is where the biggest floral auctions in the world take place.
    Back onto our bikes and back to our hotel on River Amatel for an early night in.    Read more

    Bike riding around tulip fields

    We definitely saw some of the beauties on earth today!
    An early morning to begin our 42km bike ride, firstly we stopped at the worlds largest flower auction - this was definitely an interesting visit to see where/ how and who Amsterdam provide florals for.
    We then adventures onto Keukenhof, this was a sight for sore eyes. Outstanding, bright, colourful vibrant floral arrangements that can only be seen here in Amsterdam. Definitely a Must Do for everyone’s bucket list. Before heading to our Airbnb by the beach, we stopped off at a local pub for dinner.    Read more

    The parade

    A shorter day today, which was quite pleasant.
    We began this morning with the yearly flower parade called ‘Bloemencorso Bollenstreek’. All floats are created with ‘leftover flowers’ they don’t use or sell throughout the floral season.
    Before heading in for an early dinner, we bike rode around a few more tulip fields viewing some amazing wildlife God has created.
    We ate at the famous ‘Hans and Gretje’ trying some traditional Amsterdam pancakes and beer.    Read more

    The Hague

    A nice even mix of enjoyment today. Started our early morning with a 25km coastline bike ride along the Northern Sea. Whilst riding, we spotted a herd of wild horses. We arrived in The Hague around midday and journeyed around the city shops and museums. We visited Mauritshuis and saw the famous ‘Girl with a pearl earring; 1665’ and then shopped before returning to our beachside hotel.Read more

    Rotterdam

    Arrived in Rotterdam early this morning via train. We were welcomed by a small shower of rain before arriving at our house boat hotel.
    We started the morning with a bike tour of the city, in which Eric (our tour guide) showed us all the secret gems around the city.
    We then adventured the wider city via a boat tour viewing all the architecture Rotterdam has to offer.

    Yet another day that did not disappoint, especially with the evening Turkish feast that filled our belly’s.    Read more

    Rotterdam pt2

    An interesting day exploring the fully functioning windmills that were built in 1700, a quick tour through Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen learning about how they store all their art in specific temperature vaults before enjoying a nice dinner and evening in.Read more

    Dordrecht / The Kings birthday!

    What a way to end our time at Rotterdam! The kings birthday! A public holiday! Everyone out celebrating their royal family with markets, live music, food, drinks, an overall alive atmosphere.
    We spent the day over in Dordrecht walking around markets, sipping drinks, walking through crowds before returning to Rotterdam city where the real party started.
    We had to visit the local Turkish restaurant again, this was a big hit! Tasty beer and mouth melting meat. Next, we checked out the “Worlds Best Bar”, this was absolutely packed so instead we continued walking down the main streets where the Dutch party like no other city.
    Finished our late night with a slice of apple pie from the best bakery in the city. Can now happily say goodnight and goodbye to Rotterdam.    Read more

    Utrecht

    Today we spent the morning canoeing through Utrecht. Perfect weather for this! We saw lots of different architecture… before Sarah and I went the wrong way and got totally lost on the canals!
    We climbed the bell tower which was 490 stairs, 110m up! Such an incredible view at the top!
    Sarah and I then headed out for an evening of shopping before having dinner together.    Read more

    Back to Amsterdam

    Up and out early this morning, back to my favourite place; Amsterdam!
    After a nice hot Chai’ latte in this very cold weather, we headed to Van Gogh museum. What a sight this was! We got to be face-to-face with THE sunflowers! How awesome is that!
    After a pleasant cultured morning, we headed to silly town, Upside Down! Walking through different rooms all completely upside down!
    We had a bit of an Emily afternoon and went shopping! I definitely scored a few nice clothing items I’m keen to wear back home!
    Argentinian Steakhouse meat and beer for dinner again tonight! Always a hit!    Read more

    Day trip with Bas

    Our last day touring the Netherlands started with a slow, relaxed morning and breakfast. Sebastian (our tour guide) picked us up and we began our day sight seeing. Muiderslot Castle was a highlight of the day! We caught a ferry from Marken to Volendam (a popular fishing place) and enjoyed a nice lunch with Bas.
    Our last stop was Zaanse Sehans where we climbed a few windmill’s and learnt how wooden clogs are made.

    Sadly, our last night in the Netherlands has arrived. We spent the evening walking through Vondel park reminiscing on a busy yet once in a lifetime opportunity we have all enjoyed.
