    This house, Hall of Clestrain, was the birthplace of the famous Arctic explorer, John Rae, who discovered the final link in the Northwest Passage and uncovered the fate of the 1845 Franklin Expedition which never returned to UK. He found out that Franklin and his crew (unsuccessfully) tried to avoid starving by resorting to cannibalism. This news didn't go well in the Victorian society and Rae was denied the honours in the history books.
    The hall is now derelict but the John Rae society plans to restore it.
