  • Lost Place Scalpay

    July 27, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

I'm fascinated by lost places and although one can find them in abundance in Harris, there are always some special ones, like this in Scalpay. It was an occupied house in the 60s and you can still find some remains of the former residents.
Walking carefully over broken floor boards, glass sheds and roof pieces, I see the beauty of the decay and keep imagining all the stories the people of this house might have experienced.

  • The Wreck

    July 27, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Not only houses are abandoned in Harris. Cars, bikes, camper vans, bath tubs... You name it. In Harris you never dump anything, you just abandon it somewhere... Decay shapes the scene of Harris. And there are also many old boats and ships abandoned - like this huge wreck which seems unsinkable...Read more

  • Rodel revisited

    July 28, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

I felt that this beautiful church deserves a better light than I captured two days ago. Therefore 5 am the alarm went off and I climbed that hill in early morning light. So much better!!!
As soon as I was back in the car (literally!) it started to rain. Glad I didn't leave not only 5 minutes later, the light was all goneRead more

  • Fairies played builders

    July 30, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Fairyglen is called like this because the small hills look like fairies shaped the landscape. Together with the majestic Castle Ewen as a backdrop you really think this beauty is otherworldly.
Ok. The landscape was actually formed by a major landslide. But that doesn't sound as romantic, does it?!? So let's continue to believe in fairytales...!Read more

  • Charging Disaster

    July 30, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

The charging situation in Skye is a real disaster. And when I say that I mean it!!! In theory they have enough charging points. But a week ago they were all disconnected. On the whole island there are 3 slow chargers and the first rapid charger is 35 miles away. Obviously the few chargers which are left are always busy. But this morning we got our slot!Read more

  • The unexpected

    July 31, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

Forecasted was rain. And rain. And rain.
But hey, we're on Skye, right?!? So we still left the accommodation at 4am and drove to the Quiraing, hoping for the unexpected. And look at the photos how heavy it "rained"...
The Quiraing is an otherworldly area of bizarre rock formations on the west coast of the Trotternish Peninsula. The Quiraing was formed by an ancient landslip that left behind striking rock formations. I've seen it before, but never with this gorgeous light. Something I'll never forget.

  • The Kilt

    July 31, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 12 °C

The Kilt Rock and the Mealt Falls.
The basalt columns undulate, forming a ripple effect that resembles the pleated folds of a traditional Highland kilt, hence the name 'Kilt Rock'.

  • Cuillins meet the sea

    August 1, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Sligachan is a hub. Yesterday and today. It's where highland clans met up. Where travellers found rest and shelter in a historic inn. Where today the traffic is divided to reach east, north or west of the island. And where the Cuillins meet the sea.
That's why it's a busy spot. No matter where you go on the islands, you'll pass Sligachan.
Most just snap a quick selfie on the old bridge. But Sligachan has more to offer, like waterfalls and rapids.

  • The must do shot

    August 2, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ 🌬 13 °C

Neist Point is the must do shot when you're in Skye. For sunset you can expect 100 photographers and fight for your spot.
At sunrise I was on my own a bit further down, uphill were three other photographers. Nice to have it so quiet.
It's a very tedious and difficult drive of more than an hour from Portree on small roads with potholes some hotels dream of having a swimming pool in that size! Not easy in the dark. But worth it!

  • Slow but yummy

    August 2, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ⛅ 15 °C

Although the charging situation is more than bad, we are quite lucky. The only charger (22kW slow) within a radius of 30 minutes driving is only 3 mins from our accommodation. And although there are usually queues to charge, we never had to wait. Plus it was always warm and almost always sunny and the café next door offers great vegan food. From vegan breakfast buns to sandwiches, vegan pastry and pizza with vegan cheese. It's called Gasta Port Righ and highly recommended!Read more

  • Strong as an ox

    August 3, 2023 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

The Wildcat is a wonderful all vegan café in Fort Williams with best food ever and tea ceremony. It does have some advantages to be back in civilisation after many weeks on remote isles...
