Mitchell Airport

It rained last night and we woke to a partially cleaned car and caravan. A bit of a bonus although it made hitching up the caravan just a little more awkward with a bit of mud around.
We have mentioned previously the Great Artesian Basin which extends underground over more than 20% of Australia. Scattered around the Basin area are numerous hot water springs and spas with mineral water that has come to the surface. Some of the caravanners we have met have even made their travel theme to visit as many of these spas as they can, and they travel from spa to spa, to hot springs, to mud baths. What a life!
One such hot spring is at the central Queensland town of Mitchell which is on our route along the Warrego Highway. So we stopped here to go to the Mitchell Great Artesian Spa. Even though there was a little drizzly rain we still went into the spa and spent about an hour in the 37 degree mineral hot springs. It was very relaxing and therapeutic. In fact it was so relaxing that we forgot to take any photos!! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷‍♀️
We then drove down to the free camp at the Neil Turner Weir on the outskirts of Mitchell. Immediately we were amazed at how big was the camping area and how picturesque, and how many caravans were already there!! With so many caravans staying at this free camp you have to wonder how the caravan parks in Mitchell are faring.
We found a really nice very large campsite right on the banks of the Maranoa River. This will suit us very well for tonight.
While we were relaxing this evening a bus RV pulled up not far away and a couple got out and set up their camp. Peter noticed that they had a big sign in their front windscreen “BARBER”. Peter was needing a haircut so after a quick chat with our new neighbours a barber chair appeared along with hair cutting utensils, and Peter was having a haircut!
