    Paris Catacombs

    Yesterday in France ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

With the remains of over 1 million people, the catacombs are a vast network of tunnels 20 meters below ground. Built in the late 1700s to create a burial area for the city. Some parts were filled with quarry waste to stop sinkholes from appearing.Read more

    Paris France

    April 22 in France ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

Reflecting back on our 1 1/2 days in Paris, France..
We arrived 4/21/2025 at Charles de GaulleAirport (CDG). We met up with our friends Lou and Tawna, which, Mark and I met on a Miami Dolphin cruise two years ago, they have done the Camino two times. Along with them is their friend Tom, all from California..
We got to our hotel around 4 pm. Went next door to the hotel and got lunch, I got a delicious salad.. then off to the Eiffel Tower, the only tickets we could get was at 10 o’clock that night, and the elevator tickets were sold out, so we walked to the second level (equivalent to 35 stories). We had pizza at a little Italian restaurant, delicious!!
Second day was pouring rain, it was then I realized I left all my rain gear, beanie hat and gloves at the airport.. I had all my rain gear in a separate bag which I had cinched on top of my backpack.. as Tanya and I were waiting on the group from California, I decided to do a minor re-sort my back pack and my cinch strap buckle broke, I thought no big deal, I’ll just pick up another strap in Paris, and carry the rain gear bag (it had a handle). Well, that bag never made it out of the airport, I guess I left it on the bench in the airport…. Tanya saved the day, I borrowed her extra pinch until I could replace all my rain gear… on with our day.. First we had breakfast and a French croissant, i can’t put in words how delicious that croissant was!! Off the Notre Dame, the rain continued as we waited in the long line, it was beautiful and very touching, as a lot of people were paying homage to the Pope… We then made our way to the Basilica.. a few cafes for coffee or a cocktail in between..we topped the night off with a boat ride on the Seine river..

We are leaving Paris this morning.. 4/24/2025, on a bullet train going to St Jean Pied Port (SJPP), this is where we start our walk..
I want to mention Christina, who is a friend of Lou and Tawna.. she is from Arizona, and a young lady who is traveling around Europe..Through her travels she has learned to navigate the complex metro system, which in return helped us so much, we would have spent several waisted hours trying to figure out, and spent $$$$ on taxi’s and Ubers..

    Our 2-night Paris Layover Ends

    April 20 in France ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

It was 51 years ago yesterday, April 19, when Helene and I became a couple. Helene was 15, I was 18. If someone would have told us then that we would spend a glorious day in Paris in exactly 51 years, that would have sounded crazy! Our 51st anniversary was, well, a delightfully crazy day. It was the best day!

The adventure continues - we are off to Portugal. An Uber to the Beauvais Airport north of Paris would have cost around $135 Euro (over $150). So we were happy to use public transportation- two Metro trains to bus station cost $5 Euro, then the roughly 75km bus ride cost $36 Euro. I love traveling like and with the locals whenever I can on my travels. On the Ryanair flight to Porto now.

People We Saw On 12 Miles Walking Today

    April 19 in France ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

I took a lot of pictures of people today because it’s fun to see all the diversity… Different than my regular life in Beulah. What caught my eye with the cool clothes, French looking men in their scarves, hip young people, older people. I’m always amazed at how few old people we see in Colorado, but these people live in neighborhoods and go out to the stores in the big cities so I delight in coming upon them. Would love your captions.Read more

    Walking walking walking Paris!

    April 19 in France ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

We got our steps today. Somehow we both seemed to manage the jet lag with a LONG night’s sleep. So, after a hearty breakfast, we hit the streets. Here’s a bunch of random photos I took today on our nearly 12 miles of walking.Read more

    April 19 in France ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F

Stopping here for a layover on our way to Portugal. The Parisian culture has a rhythm we step right into. The NYC of Europe possibly, Paris during our first few hours is lovely, filled with food and diverse people. Our daughter adores Paris so we are letting her be our tour guide at a distance.Read more

    Jet lagged in Paris.

    April 18 in France ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F

Left Denver at 5:40 MDT, arrived in Paris 10:35am the next day. That’s way too many hours on a plane for me - especially since I just can’t seem to sleep on a plane. After a short nap, we wandered around - lots of people watching, a wonderful veggie-rich Lebanese dinner, and now back to our room where sleep will soon be happening.Read more

    Paris

    May 13 in France ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Had a good but long flight to Paris via Perth. My cousin, Kirsten, flew in from Edinburgh 2 hours later.
Went and got our Navigo train passes and then caught the train out to Le Bourget train station. Our apartment is a short walk from the train station. After we dropped off our luggage, we went into the centre if Paris. We were fortunate to get in to see Notre Dame Cathedral.
Had a traditional French dinner that included Soupe à l'oignon. There were two street performers outside the restaurant. They were quite good.
Headed home and am ready to catch on some sleep. It has been a big few days.
Today's Learning - I learnt how to get my Vodafone wi-fi connection to work

    Tag Vier: Paris

    May 8 in France ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Was dann kam, war erwartungsvoll - Musik, Militärformationen in vier Blöcken, wehende Fahnen.
