    Premier jour où le soleil a brillé toute la journée, mais quel vent!!
    Comme prévu, nous avons pris le ferry pour aller à Faro city. Après 25 minutes de navigation dans la lagune, on débarque dans la vieille ville. On se balade dans les rues et l'on va voir la chapelle des os: on pénètre tout d'abord dans une chapelle ruisselante d'or, avant de pouvoir accéder à une autre chapelle aux murs entièrement recouverts d'os et de crânes humains. Ces ossements ont été déterrés d'un cimetière en 1816.
    Après un repas dans un petit restaurant typiquement portugais et une balade le long de la Marina, nous avons repris le ferry pour nous mettre à l'abri du vent dans le camping car.    Read more

    Dernière étape de la N2 avant d'atteindre Faro. Cette route est comparée à la R66 des États-Unis. Comme nous n'avons pas parcouru la R66, nous ne pouvons pas donner notre avis! Il nous a fallu 2546km depuis Sergy pour atteindre Faro. Depuis Castro Verde, nous sommes à nouveau passés dans des zones peu peuplées. Avec du soleil, c'était très beau.
    Nous nous sommes posés à Praia de Faro et demain nous prendrons un ferry pour aller visiter Faro.    Read more

    Faro! Getting the bikes dialed

    I landed in Faro last night with just enough time to grab some dinner with Ari and hit the hay in an attempt to right my sleep schedule. Today we rode around town to make sure the bikes were all set up and feeling good. Faro is very cute and seemingly a walled city, but ill read more about that tonight.     Day 27

    Day 24 Out and About Faro

    April 27 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

    Taking it easy today..
    Was going to take a Bolt ( like an Uber) out however the driver kept getting lost. You can see where he is on the map......

    As I was waiting, people started to pass by me with fresh produce. I looked around the corner to see a huge farmers market.

    I ditched the Bolt and went to the market. Such fun
    The people are so kind and generous with their offerings. I always wanted small amounts of items and they kept filling my bags up.....needless to say I will leave what I can't eat in the free bin👍

    The sweet potato I got tasted great. It had a purple skin. The veggies were garden fresh all ready for a soup but I made stir-fry . Delicious with fresh strawberries for dessert.

    I did have one problem today....cramping of my feet. I think it was due to dehydration from yesterday. I didn't have any electrolytes and this nice guy gave me some fresh market cucumbers that are supposed to help....I had missed 2 days of my Calcium Nd Magnesium so that wasn't good either. Anyway I went to the Farmacia and got some powdered electrolytes and I am good to go

    Day 31–38

    Next stop on our journey: Portugal!

    April 24 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

    The first leg of our trip ended and we embarked on the next part of our adventure.

    This time our destination is Portugal!
    We will spend 5 weeks all up in Portugal, starting with 7 days in Faro.

    We took the local train down from Kiel to the airport in Hamburg and arrived with 5 minutes to spare at the airport to drop our bags off after being delayed due to signal issues on the train line by about 1.5 hours...🚉

    Love the Deutsche Bahn...

    When we got to Faro, we decided to walk from the airport to our hotel which was only 6km so not the worst 🚶🏼‍♀️

    We ended up having an amazing dinner at a local sandwich place (Ponto expresso) and went to bed 🛏️

    The next day, we got up early and started exploring Faro and it's surroundings. The 25th April is freedom day so the streets of Faro were very empty in the morning.

    After a little stroll around the city, we found a nice little coffee shop (yellow bourbon) where we ordered a drip coffee. To our surprise, we had to make the coffee ourselves - which was a super cool experience!

    After breakfast and coffee, we decided to walk out to a nearby beach. And so we spend the day walking from Faro to Montenegro (not the country hehe) and further down to Praia de Faro Este and back. All up a 21km walk which took us through some cool parts of the Algarve!

    So far, we like the small streets with sun covers and the random pieces of art that pop up everywhere in the city 🏙️ 🌆

    Day 24

    Day 21 Lisbon to Faro

    April 24 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

    Left Lisbon at 10 am by train. Easy taking the metro to the train station. The train was packed!!

    I sat next to a lovely young lady Lauren, from London travelling with her folks who live in Chicago.

    Super hot in Faro.

    The hostel is great except for a shared Bathroom and Shower?? I plan to shower super early tomorrow that is my plan. Not really liking this part ....

    I don't usually book any tours however seeing dolphins really appealed to me so I am going tomorrow!!! I can't wait.

    I also booked a Cave tour/ hike for Saturday😉

    Faro is very close to Lagos .... I would love to go there but there just isn't enough time. Next time,?? Hmmmmm😉    Read more

    Day 12–13

    FARO

    May 6 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

    Bei Sonnenschein ☀️🤩 mit dem Zug in Faro angekommen. Die Zugfahrt war sehr angenehm. Vollbesetzt, da nicht wie in der Schweiz im Stunden- oder halbstundentakt ein Zug fährt. Ins Billet gab's sogar noch ein Loch durch den Kondukteur, der in seinem Zug streng für Ordnung sorgte. Jedes Gepäckstücke musste weichen, damit jede Person nach Möglichkeit sitzen kann. 👌😊 Der Zug und die Bahnhöfe waren vorbildlich sauber.

    In Faro machte ich mich zuerst auf den Weg zu meiner Unterkunft ins "Lemon Tree House". 😉 Ein kleiner, feiner und genialer Platz wie es der Name sagt. Sehr freundlich, überhaupt die Freundlichkeit und Hilfsbereitschaft der Landsleute ist enorm ❤️

    Danach machte ich mich kreuz und quer zu Fuss auf den Weg durch die wunderschöne Stadt zum Shopping und Co. Inklusive Starbucks. 🤩🥰
    Einfach nur herrlich. Ich habe mich in Portugal verliebt. Zu kurz war es um alles genau in Faro, Lisabon etc. zu besichtigen.
    Portugal, ich werde wieder kommen, das nächste mal mit meiner Familie 🤩

    Es war grandios. Viele unglaubliche Eindrücke mit viel Sonnenschein. ☀️☀️☀️Nun freue ich mich sehr auf die Heimreise. Morgen früh um 3.45Uhr heisst es Aufstehen, Taxifahrt Richtung Flughafen, den um 6Uhr hebt meinen Flieger 🛫 ab Richtung Lissabon - Zürich🥰    Read more

    Day 25

    Day 22 Faro and the Dolphins

    April 25 in Portugal ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

    Pretty loud and crazy last night so did not sleep very much . This place has the feel of Playa del Carmen🥳🥳 I later found out they were celebratng " Freedom Day."

    I gott ready for the dolphin boat ride.
    Perfect day with hardly any wind🫶
    I dressed with long pants and my jacket and I am so glad I did as it was chilly There were so many young girls with hardly anything covering their body....

    We were accompanied by a marine biologist who was super excited at the prospect of seeing some whales passing through. This is a prime time to see them as there are a lot of tuna.

    You can also see tortugas, loggerhead ones in particular. Interestingly they come from the Gulf of Mexico on their way to the Mediterranean to nest. Unfortunately, we didn't see any.

    What we did see were 2 groups of bottle nosed dolphins They are in groups for different reasons. Some are females with their calves....

    I loved the ride, scenery and of course the beautiful dolphins who are very social and curious with regards to boats..

    We also saw striped dolphins that are the opposite and swim away from boats.

    It was a full day on the water from 11:30 to 1500 hrs.

    The biologist was disappointed that she didn't see any different marine life.....but "that's Nature" as she said.

    I was amazed at how calm the ocean was. We were fairly far out....you can see on the map. So if there were any whales you could spot them for sure!!

    Wonderful day. Walked around town in the evening🤗🤔

    Day 10

    Last day in the Algarve

    April 21 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

    Today we went to Faro (capital of the Algarve)
    Our itinerary consisted of the following:
    (1) Croissants for breakfast 🥐 - still warm from the oven!!
    (2) Chapel of bones & church views (both inside and roof top) ☀️
    (3) Lunch at a Polish restaurant with some delicious homemade pierogies & pasta 😋

    Later in the day we had some more pool time, explored one more beach and had an authentic Portuguese dinner 👌🏼
    All around it was a great day & 5 nights in the Algarve 💙
    Tomorrow we travel back to Lisbon for a few more nights before heading back to NS!! We can't wait to keep exploring 🌍    Read more

    Day 222–227

    Faro - Campen zwischen Fluss und Ozean

    March 27 in Portugal ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

    Einfach toll gelegener CP mit Kaiserwetter. So haben wir es uns gewünscht und so ist es gekommen. Mit der Fähre rüber nach Faro. Süße kleine Gassen in der Altstadt laden zum Schlendern ein; leckere Lokale mit einheimischer Küche auch😉
    Ein Highlight war die Capela Dos Ossos. Es handelt sich hier um eine gruselige Kapelle an der Rückseite der wunderschönen Igreja do Carmo.
    Über dem Eingang befindet sich folgende Inschrift:

    "Halten Sie hier inne und bedenken Sie, dass auch Sie diesen Zustand erreichen werden" 👻...

    Die "Praia de Faro" ist wunderschön für ellenlange Spaziergänge und Verweilen in netten Strandbars.... perfekte Sonnenuntergänge runden jedes Tagesende ab 🥹    Read more
