Snowdon descent Miner's track

After enjoying our packed lunch at the summit, we explored the gift shop, bought a couple of 'I Climbed Snowdon' medals and then started heading down the mountain. This was fairly challenging as there were lots of rocks to clamber down and our legs were a little bit wobbly.

We opted to change to the Miner's Track at the junction point, and this was very steep and rocky all the way down to the first lake. Jamie, Coen and Rigo went for a refreshing dip in the clean, cold water before we headed along the flatter paths towards the causeway over the other lake and then the increasingly smoother track back to the car park. We had to rush to meet our 8-hour parking limit!

We stopped in Tremadog on the way home and grabbed fish & chips to replenish our energy stores.Read more

Snowdon ascent Pyg

We parked at the Pen-y-Pass car park and, following a bit of research, chose the Pyg Track up Mount Snowdon.

It was, in turns, walky, steppy, and a little climby and always rocky. It was a glorious, sunny day and we were all hot and sticky. Coen had taken up the challenge of filling a bag with little along the way, so we kept an eye out for loot but there wasn't much.

Parts of the route required us to clamber with hands and feet, and we often each chose a way through the rocky sections that was all our own. There were lots of other climbers but it wasn't busy enough to be annoying.

Fabulous views of two lakes and the steep rocky mountain silhouettes kept us going. We joined the Miner's Track around half way up and then, after more climbing, we met the Snowdon Mountain Railway track! It took us just under four hours to reach the summit, where we joined the queue to have a photo at the trig point!

At the very top there was a large, modern, indoor café with gift shop and even a post box!Read more

Harlech

We drove to the nearby town of Harlech with the aims of visiting the Castle, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the beach.

As it turned out, we explored the high street, enjoyed a locally-made ice cream (discovering that the Welsh called honeycomb hoci poci before the Kiwis named it hokey pokey) and went down then up the world steepest street. We invested fairly heavily in some Welsh beer, cheese and Bara Breith, and the boys bought hunners of fun snaps. Bang!Read more

Vu la mer d’Irlande, pas vu Portmeirion, je suis arrivé à la fermeture. Le village où à été tourné la série Le prisonnier est privatisé le soir. Possibilité de faire un stop au camp des camping cars, une autre fois. J’ai filé à Beddgelert, lieu de départ d’activités outdoor : vtt , trek, kayak. 2 anglais ont débarqué alors que je regardais Mais où est donc passée la 7e compagnie pour me dire que j'étais stationné sur un lieu privé. Pour un peu j’aurais dû déloger mais bon ils m’ont autorisé à rester une nuit, ouf j’ai pu voir la fin de ce chef d’œuvre du cinéma français de 1973.Read more

Well I sent my tent home as i was struggling with the concept of wild camp (environmentally and finding locations) I worry that it is private land. So what am doing, is bits of the trails as day walks and getting to and from locations by bus/car or doing out and back walks. I did this for the last part of the coastal path while camping and seemed to work ok. But it is time for a nice bed.
Today I travelled to Norton, Wales and will walk a few sections of the offas dyle path. As day walks.
For those of you who remember the tv series “The Prisoner” on my way to my friends BnB I called in to see the village that was used a the set. Portmeirion is the place and it is fascinating.

Der Sturm 🫣🌊🌧️🌬️

Wie man sehen kann sind wir in der roten Zone😬
Bisher ist alles ist entspannt.
Es regnet immer wieder zwischendurch. Einige Boen zerren ein bisschen an Emma und rütteln uns ein wenig durch.

Unserer Einschätzung nach ist das bisher nichts, was einen beunruhigen muss.

Diese Küste hat sicher schon heftigere Stürme erlebt.

Wir liegen entspannt in der Koje und sehen uns ein paar Filme an.

Abgesehen davon, dass unsere Aufhängsel im Bus ab und zu wackeln, ist alles entspannt. Gegen 22 Uhr soll der Wind nachlassen.

Wir drücken die Daumen, dass alle im Sturm gut durch kommen 🍀🍀🍀Read more

Was für ein toller Sonnenuntergang

Himmel hatten wir gestern ein Traum- Sonnenuntergang. Das war wirklich magisch.

Heute wird das wie es aussieht allerdings nichts. Der Sturm Agnes, in Deutschland auch genannt Kilian, soll über uns hinweg ziehen.
Ok wir sind nicht im Zentrum aber am Sturmrand.

Deshalb bleiben wir auch hier am CP (Campingplatz). Wir fahrn ein wenig von der Klippe weg, richten die Nase in den Wind und sitzen das ganze aus. Irgendwie hatten wir das doch schon mal oder?Read more

North Wales

We joined Miel's family to explore Wales together. Its highest mountain, mount Snowdon (1085m), is reachable by train but luckily we chose to take on the Horseshoe Loop, which tackles 3 other peaks as well. Scrambling along the other ridges turned out to be more exciting than queueing for a selfie at Snowdon's peak.

The next day we did a whiskey tasting and drove around the island of Anglesey, stopping at some picturesque spots. Miel couldn't get enough of the island's wild shore and went trail running but, blinded by all this beauty and the sunset, he twisted his ankle. 3 Cnicht - das Matterhorn von Wales

Die Idee für heute war, das walisische 'Matterhorn' von der flachen Seite her soweit wie möglich zu erwandern, weil ich mich von vorne nicht getraut habe. Der Muskelkater von vorgestern ist so doll, dass ich nur mit einem schmerzstillenden Spray überhaupt los konnte ... 'alte Tante' halt 🤔
Es war ein wunderbarer Weg an der Flanke eines langen Tals hindurch mit einem stetigen Anstieg, also super zu laufen.
Als das meiste schon geschafft war, befand ich mich auf einer Grashochebene, in der man an vielen Stellen bis zum Knöchel in Wasser oder Moor eingesackt ist.
Etwas gestresst durch konstant starken Wind und dass ich überhaupt keinen Pfad erkennen konnte, bin ich schließlich kurz vor dem Gipfel umgekehrt, hab noch ein verlassenes Minenarbeiterdorf besichtigt und prompt ausgerutscht und in ein Matschloch gestürzt ... gut, dass ich meinen Wanderstock dabei hatte und mich daran wieder hochziehen konnte 😀
Vielleicht versuche ich es am Wochenende nochmal ❤️
Zur Belohnung gab es Fish&Chips. Pommes mit Essig und Salz ... geht so ... aber der Fisch war erstklassig 🤩Read more

Didn't we have a lovely time...

Had breakfast and took a leisurely drive through the mountains to head up to Bangor.

Normally a 3 and a half hour drive, I took 6 hours to get there due to stops for photos and an unexpected detour to the coast and a visit to Harlech Castle.

Staying with my mate Jon who I haven't caught up with for 15 years. Awesome to hang out - dinner at the pub then started up late talking and watching TV to the wee hours.Read more
