    6 de julho de 2016, Equador ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Vanessa isn't much into dinner usually, so I find myself a restaurant and then go exploring the central part of the city myself a bit before turning in - very promising☺️

  • Cajas National Park

    8 de julho de 2016, Equador ⋅ 🌙 7 °C

This is my last venture up to above 4000 meter - with a mini group and a guide who knows just about any plant (and animal) in this huge national reserve, plus its different usages among indigenos.
Cajas is a huge water reservoir for Cuencas, which, alone except for Quito, boasts potable tap water, so our guide claims. We drive up to its highest point, which is a key watershed (Pacific - Atlantic Ocean).
First of all, however, we pass 'Gringoland', a huge complex reminiscent of a gated community inhabited by American,Canadian, German ... old age pensioners with flats at $800 a month, unaffordable by the average Cuscenian.
We do two walks in the park boasting more than 250 lakes, one in a primeval forest area, one in the uplands, where the ground is either covered by different kinds of mosses or huge kinds of grass.
We even get some glimpses of the sun at times 😏 and the scenery is spectacular👍☺️.

  • Cuenca II

    9 de julho de 2016, Equador ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Back in Cuenca, the sun comes out and I explore the old part of the city some more - the new Cathedral, coffee time, sunbathing by the river - a most attractive town! Time is short, however, and in the evening, we start another epic bus ride back to Quito - I'm wasted when we get to Quito at 5 am😴😴 - and it's goodbye to my Spanish teacher. I really enjoyed Vanessa's company and lessons in week one - in week two, relations cooled off a bit😏...Leia mais

  • Quito

    9 de julho de 2016, Equador ⋅ 🌙 17 °C

I wander the deserted streets in the very early morning - what a contrast to later, when the Ecuadorian holiday crowd plus all the foreign tourists invade the place...
In the afternoon, I visit the Presidential Palace with a mural of the Conquista by Guayasamin (s. Picture) and the Franciscan monastery. Building started right after the Spanish Conquista in mid-16th Century. The gold of the church displays its donors' riches and some impressive artwork by artists of the Quitenian school.Leia mais
