• Samos to O Pedrouzo

    22. juni, Spanien ⋅ ☁️ 88 °F

The walk from Samos to Sarria was idyllic. After a thunderstorm the night before, and a nice rain, the air was cool, a little damp, and the mist was rising from the fields that we passed. We walked a lot on soft earth paths through the trees and some farmland; so peaceful.

It was hot when we got to Sarria. I could have fallen asleep at the table. We had lunch first, then off to the hotel for naps, showers, laundry. Same routine!

Got up very early the following morning (445a) to beat the heat and were on the road just before sun up. We couldn't see much because it was very foggy. Walking in the fog was eerie, but beautiful. Portomarine was the destination for the day. Lovely spot overlooking the Minho River.

On to Palas de Rei the next day. From Sarria on, the walk is lovely. Which is good because the number of pilgrims has increased 1000%. Classes of high school students and lots of people starting there just to get their Compostella (certificate showing they walked 100k). Need lots of patience!

Eucalyptus forests between Palas de Rei and O Pedrouzo fill the air with the scent of eucalyptus. It helps to cover the smell of the barnyards. Sometimes... 😬 The trail is wider here, too, probably because there are so many people walking.

We are now in O Pedrouzo. Tomorrow Santiago!
